2015 Bravia Android TV Issues

I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!

1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435

2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.

3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360

4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.

As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

Similarly on the PS4 the Bravia app which allows you to control Bravia TVs with a dualshock controller no longer works it can find the TV on the Network but when you try to connect it says it doesn't exist and to check the network again. Appears to be yet another BUG!

I have 55x8509C and Samsung soundbar.

Connected optical and hdmi.

Sometimes when I switch sound to soundbar there is no sound.

However, when I go back to Action menu and select sound, the sound outputs from the soundbar.

No need to select any action.

Is no one else wondering what and why the Opera TV store appeared for? What is that, a store in a store? Really bugging my ocd.

It's just an alternative to the Google Play Store

Just a shame all this rubbish isn't optional. If all the forced apps were removed the TV would probably run far smoother.

I 2nd that ^^ we should be able to remove the stuff we ourselves don't use or want instead of it clogging up the system. Oh an Email client would be nice considering I needed to enter my Gmail address when first intalled the tv.

Hi,

I made a complaint today with Argos about my KD-43X8305C, telling them that in thier catalogue it says that USB recording is available when you buy. I told them that is currently not the case and that it will not be available for two months at least. They said I can return the TV even though I no longer have the box.

Are there any recomendations for an alternative 4K TV from Samsung etc. that anyone can recomend?

Does anyone have a problem TV loosing the WiFi connection? Actually it shows "Connected", but no internet is available.

Helps:

- rebooting the TV (7+ sec on the remote's off button)

- setup the wifi onece again

Hoped that the update will fix it, but it did not.

For what it's worth

KD-55X8507

Problems after the firmware update:

1. Intermiitent inabiilty to connect to the internet via Wifi, even though in Settings the TV blatantly can see my network, but when I go back, it's connected.

2. After viewing my PS3 on HDMI2, I switch back to HDMI1 to view my Humax Foxsat box, the TV becomes totally unresponsive. No picture, no Home page. Can't even turn it off. Have to switch it off at the wall. Even when that is done and turned on again it has still remembered the Speaker setting that was switched to Audio system!

3. When viewing PS3/Blu-ray via HDMI2 there was no surround sound through my Sony DA3300ES amp until I ran a full speaker set-up test. Only then did it work. What's the betting it won't work next time? How is that even possible?

Other than that, the TV is running perfectly!

Mine now works after the tv was updated it never worked before, it used to find the tv but always said the tv needs updating, now it works, I don't like it though I think I'll stick to my sky remote,
