Does Backup & restore app not allow you to restore backup if bootloader is unlocked or ever was unlocked?

I am going to have my device sent in for a repair since I cannot restore the backup or create new backup.

And is there anything else I may need to do to prepare the device before it is sent to repair (i.e. take out the SIM tray or not ?)?

Xperia Backup & restore can't be guaranteed to function properly if you unlock the bootloader of your Xperia device.

As to your question, only send in the device, but you can keep the SIM tray in the device, but remove any SIM and/or SD cards from the device.

I think that such an app which gives you option to backup offline in your phone should work regardless of unlocking your bootloader or not since there is no other way to do a backup on the phone and more importantly restore the backup done before unlocking bootloader.

I understand that, however that is all the information that I have available for this application when the bootloader is unlocked.

Can processor replacement restore DRM keys?

you will have to replace the motherboard and that will cost you almost the same as a new device.
