Xperia XA dual lag/stuttering

Dear Forum

Problem:

I got this new Xperia XA Dual SIM on the 5th of november (less than 3 weeks already), it was great and working fine until yesterday

after I charged the phone.. the UI itself became slow, just like everything else, it stutters and its so annoying, also the phone gets overheated not from the battery, not the camera. but top left side (where the SD card and the SIM card are).

Attempts to fix the problem:

1. Turned off the phone and back on: It doesn't lag for the first 10-20 minutes, then it becomes sluggish again

2. Removed SD card: problem still presists

3. Removed Cache: problem still presists

4. Did the "volume up power button" trick while turning it on: Problem still presists

5. Software repair using PC companion: problem still presists

Observations

well that's weird. when its connected it via USB it works fine, I tried this many times. no lag when USB attached (Wall charger or PC) and as soon as the cable is removed .. sluggish again

Notes:
- I don't complain about the battery, yes definitely overheating causes it to drain quicker but its not that noticable

- My SIM card was originally a micro one that got trimmed into nano

- I have been very careful with the phone, It never fell or had any hits

Thanks for your help in Advance

I hope you can return my trust in Sony because I had an Xperia Z1C before and the service center told me "its unrepairable" and despite this I bought Sony again because I like the brand, I hope it wasn't a mistake.

Hi,

I'm experiencing exactly the same symptoms as others users in this forum. My Xperia XA Dual worked fine for around 3 months and now it lags and overheats. It works for around 20 mins after re-start then it becomes useless. It's also more responsive when on charge. I've tried every fix mentioned in these posts and still the issues persist. I feel like the phone just can't handle the android OS.

Please let me know if any magic fixes come to light. I'm not holding my breathe after reading the other poor user's story. Sounds like I need to get a new phone. Unfortuntaly it won't be a Sony and in conversation I'll actively discourage friends from getting a Sony (Phone series doesn't matter. If a brand is willing to release a phone like this, the trust is gone.).

Cheers

I recommend that you download Antutu Benchmark and perform a test with ur phone when u think it is in phase of lagging and do it again when ur connected to PC or charger via USB and take screenshots of both tests and reply here if the score is dramaticaly different between those 2 tests.

Hope this can lead you to somehow fixing ur device.

This is I think normal score Xperia XA can give u in Antutu Benchmark.

Cheers!

Hi @ECG, sorry to hear about your phone. Slightly_frowning_Face

Have you made sure that the STAMINA mode isn't activated in your phone? Since it's working better when you are charging it and the STAMINA mode will be automatically disabled once you connect your phone to a charger.

If there is no change in safe mode, after performing a software repair using Xperia Companion and the STAMINA mode is disabled, I'm afraid that there isn't much else to try apart from having your device examined at an authorized service centre.

@Amar17, That is a really good suggestion, thanks for helping out! Slightly_smiling_Face

Hello, i have the Xperia XA and i have the same problem, at 3 month when i bought the phone, this start to be very laggy, i verified the stamina is desactivated, i tried to removing the sd card and sim card, i tried with restoring to factory settings, i tried safe mode and restore using sony companion, but the phone still lagging, i've  installed a cpu monitor, surprise, i have all app closed and i don't do anything but the CPU ussage is in 75 - 99%, and when i charge the phone, the cpu ussage is in 5 - 30%, and the ram is overloading constantly when i have all apps closed, and the frequency always is 0 mhz? i have some photos about it.

Hello I'm Alan

I have exerienced the same problem as everyone mentioned before. The battery drainage and overheating is unreal in this phone when it happens. But first let me start by saying I first encountered this when I was playing my heavy type game the lag was crazy. Then after existing the game and doing other social media stuff and moving in and out between apps was so annoying with constant 5-10 sec delay. I couldn't even type as i had to wait for the  keyboard to register.

I currently found a solution to this problem I hope it lasts so far it doing good.

I delted my recent apps, deleted cache, removed both sd card and sim and now currently its having no lag with all these changes. I will update when putting back the same sim and if it does lag I might as well get someone elses and try theirs.

Seriosly though this phone was always a hassle for me. Mainly the overheating and drainage since i'm a gamer. This was not my first problem with this phone another huge problem costs me my whole camera. It wasnt fun, I could live without a camera, but not lag though. I would not reccomend this phone to anyone sorry.   Sony tried you once wont come again.

I have the same problem as everyone in here, the lag is so much I can't do anything with it and I feel like smashing it against the wall! I tried everything already said in here and still lags like crazy. If I restart it then it works okay for 10 minutes but then lags again and drains the battery in a few minutes.

Any solution to this, the phone has only a couple months and why is this happen?

Update.

I did the companion software repair and installed a system monitor. The faulty in this phone is the ram, only one app installed and ram is completely full.

I request a repair at Sony Center and I will post it tomorrow. I hope they don't just do a companion repair and send it back to me...after a Companion Repairafter a Companion Repair

I have had my xa ultra for over a year. Was running great till a little while ago this issue occurred with me. I think it may have started after a system update which occurred in the last few months.

Video and music would stutter and do weird things. Could sometimes be helped by restarting the phone. I tried doing full reset of phone software. But same issue came back worse. Does not seem to be a hardware error. But seems more like a problem with the operating system. I think the phone may have been clogging itself up with cached data in ram and on the internal SD card, also note that the internal memory was very full @ 85-92% with just fairly basic apps installed like Facebook, messenger, anti virus and some other basic programs like eBay, Aliexpress, car sales. using programs like a avg cleaner would help it run OK sometimes to after running memory and cache cleans, which would free up some space.

Today I got an android 7 update. It seems to have helped. My internal storage usage is now in the 60% range. The phone seems to be smoother and not lagging playing mp3's. But time will tell as I have only had this update for a short while. But I suggest any one else who has had this issue try see if the new system update helps you.

Thanks

This is my antutu after update. Pretty sure was in the 40k range when I first got it too, which is when it was not lagging. So seems to have some improvement.

Hello everyone!

I'm sorry for the very late reply, I have been out of office due to vacation.

@Paul1234567, very sorry to hear about this.

Have you had the time to visit the service centre? If you have, is the phone still there or has the repair been completed and you have received the phone back?

@nemblor, I'm glad to hear that! Slightly_smiling_Face

Please keep me updated on how everything is working out for both of you!
