I listen to music or audiobooks pretty much all day every day on my phone and usually I have no problems with battery. I can listen to Play Music or Audible all day and come home with usually over a 50% charge. Until today.
Noticed a Maintenance Update last night (which reminded me to turn off auto updates but not in time to prevent this one) and didn't think much of it. Was listening to Audible at work with only a few phone calls and minimal screen usage, when after only about 10 hrs off the charger it died. (ate the last 15% in about half an hour). Checked my batter usage and everything was under 10% except for audible which was at 29%. Never seen a single app or service that high before.
So I'm kind of wondering what this maintenance update was about. Was it a storage thing? Since the app is on internal storage and the audio files are saved on the SD card? Any way to fix this or roll back the update?
Android Version 6.0.1

Hi Calv,
I have the same problem, sometimes (not always, but at least 50 % of the times I try to charge), when connected, charge goes backwards as you say. See my open topic: http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z3/Z3-s-battery-lasts-half-the-time-it-used-to/td-p/1165333
Apparently, one of the causes is the latest software update, that is draining battery too fast. Yet, even if software drains battery fast, it SHOULD charge battery when connected to charger, never lose on charge, which leads me to think that there must be a purely battery issue as well.
I took my phone to service, as is under warranty, but I don't know if they'll do something.
The problem with this phone is that many of us bought and spent exta money (compared to other manufacturers) due to 2 features that might be important for many users (like me):
1.- Water & dust tightness: If you search the internet Sony does brags about the IP65/IP68 certification. But surprisingly if you make it wet not even under those conditions (summerging it less than 30 min and/or less than 1.5 me deep) you have a high chance to get your phone spoiled due to water. The fraud is that Sony will not assume it. Again, this is FRAUD.
2.- Battery life: announced as one of the highest battery lifespan phones, now, whether due to the latest software update or not, after a few months or a year (my case) after purchase, you phone battery won't last until the end of an office day even if you don't use intesively at all.
My phone is in the Sony care place, but if they do not solve the situation, for instance, they might say the phone charged normally (which sometimes does, as I told them), I will not stop fighting.
Regards
Would just like to chime in and say I have the same problem after the last update (maintenance update 1.1.a.0.1). I have a Z2, not Z3, but the issue is the same;
Before I updated (yesterday before lunch) my battery would last for at about a day and a half of normal use, before I had to charge. Now it drops at a rate of about 10% per hour, even when just in idle/standby. I did a small test and put on a podcast on full volume (in headphones), and that didn't really affect the battery drain at all, so there's something else going on even when the phone is idle.
I checked the battery stats, and the top apps are Android System and Photos with 8% each, and the rest trailing behind with just a few %. Nothing seems out of the ordinary, except the battery discharing at an alarming rate.
At the moment the phone is almost useless for me, unless I have access to a charger or keep a power bank with me. To me it clearly seems like the maintenance update is the culprit, since the issue started immediately after updating.
orite well i thought maybe itll go better @CameronT but seems as if its still the same story. used it a bit less during the day but still at around 3 it fails to stay charged. guess you guys have an issue to sort out so hopefully you can get another update rolled out asap cause this is not really helping much. lifelog is at 12%, screen at 10% and google services at 8%.
your effort is appreciated trying to assist
I have the same problem. We need a quick solution.
Did some more investigating and someone on another forum suggested that the Maintenance update was related to the Memory app. Uninstalled the updates for that app, and that did indeed make the maintenance update available again. The battery drain seemed to slow somewhat (hard to tell how much), but it wasn't a complete fix.
Then I did some more reading and it seems a recent update for Google Photos has caused massive battery drain for many users as well. Decided to disable the Google Photos app, and now the battery drain seems to have slowed down to pretty much normal again (two hours and just 3% decrease). I'll reinstall the maintenance update and see if the "fix" holds. If so, I guess I'll have to wait for another update for the Google Photos app.
By the way, if I understand it correctly, the Memory app concerns storage of data across the internal and external SD card. I have my photo apps store photos on the external SD card - can the maintenance update have "reacted badly" with the Google Photos app for some reason?
I'm going to call in and highlight the issue - i suggest everyone with the issue also call their local support and post on social media. The only way to get attention is to make enough noise and on a forum - its ignored.
This is getting beyond ridiculous. Obviously none of the Sony senior management are using the Z series phone or they would have raised the issue and it would have been fixed immediately.
You'd think after the Samsung Note 7 fiasco Sony would do their best to retain and attract more customers, not push them away with the lack of attention.
Thank you for that information. Everything does appear to be normal here, nothing out of the ordinary.
Were you able to test it in safe mode when you got this result?
To everyone. If you have not tried the other steps suggested in this thread yet, please do so, as your issue may not be exactly the same as someone elses. If you have tried it all, please try the software repair using Xperia Companion.
As an aside, what network carrier are you all with?
