it doesnt even work for 24 hrs when m nt using gprs services n the brightness is also low.
How to increase the battery life .will be great if any one can help
Others have had this problem as well. I used to get 3-4 days with 1.6. Now I get 12 hours max (doing nothing), with all wireless services off except telephone.

Are you guys using an App Killer if you are don't not in 2.1 as it self manages
I get two days out of 2.1 where I had to charge every night with 1.6 the make sure it didn't go flat the following day at work
now I charge every other night.
If you have any app killer turn it off for a couple of days, see if you notice the difference.
I don't use any app killer - never have. In fact I rarely use my wireless even for phone calls. Everything is always turned off except for wireless to make or receive calls. When I use the music player or any program that might stay running in the background, I just reboot my phone. I know about the application manager in 2.1. I look there occassionally to see what is running, and it is basic Android/SE stuff. Something changed from 1.6 to 2.1 and it wasn't any application that I'm using. I don't play games, watch videos, use Google maps, GPS or anything. Just the same as in 1.6. But now my battery is dead in 12 hours or less.
OK I guess you have all the un-ticked and only turn on when you want them
Auto Brightness off
WiFi off
Bluetooth off
Location Services Wireless and GPS off
Push Email off
Email Accounts checking frequency to never
Accounts Auto Sync off
My phone was fully charged this morning, I have sent and received 17 messages and made and received 8 phone calls only short ones no more than a couple of minutes each so about 15 minutes and about 5 minutes of Internet use the rest on standby and my phone now says battery 76%.
So if tomorrow is similar which it is likely to be then it will be down to around 35% which is what I expect to get, I never turn my phone off not even at night as I need it to be on.
Does this help give you a guide against your useage.
Thanks for the insight on your usage. I should have mentioned what is in the other thread:
I believe something is wrong with the hardware on my phone. I had problems under 1.6 and I have problems under 2.1. It's just that the battery problem changed. I suspect it is connected to the charging component. Under 1.6 I could never charge my battery, not by PC or by AC adapter. I have two batteries and an external charger (EP 900), which I used to charge the batteries. Since 2.1 the charging component appears to be always on. By that I mean the light in the top right corner is always on, as if the phone were charging. The notification system doesn't use the light now to indicate missed calls or messges, apparently because the light is being used by the charging system. Frequently my power icon shows charging even though no cable is connected. I am able to charge the battery in the phone, but I have to reboot the phone to start the charging and I have to reboot the phone to stop the charging. But the light is always on, varying in color according to the level of the charge. Yes, this appears to be a Sony Ericsson hardware problem - unfortunately I bought my phone on the Amazon marketplace and the seller doesn't offer phones with warranty. SE repair in the country where I am working understandably won't even look at it. I am in a protracted discussion with the seller, Amazon and their A-Z buyer's guarantee agent. The seller answers no communications, the guarantee agent appears to simply decline every claim attempt without considering the facts, and the lady I talk to at Amazon customer service is very friendly, sympathetic, and dutiful to send my sales and communications on to the guarantee agent. But I haven't resolved the problem. So I am still using the phone with various limitations (including the fact that it won't turn off when pressing the power off button - it just reboots). Actually, the longer battery life under 1.6 was more friendly. Here is a typical scenario for me:
1. Installed fully charged battery at 20:45
2. No calls, a few minutes of data usage at 22:00.
3. Services turned OFF:
Bluetooth
Wifi
Data Traffic (only turned on at 22:00 for a few minutes, then back off)
GPS (no "my location" functions are on)
Background data
Brightness is set at about 30% on the brightness bar
4. Normal mobil phone services on during the night
5. Check phone at 7:45, battery at 13%
6. Battery lasted 11 hours with only minimal usage, under 1.6 it would have lasted 3-4 days.
I've learned a lot of things during this whole process, and the first is no matter how good the reputation of the manufacturer is, you need a warranty that is legally binding. Second, what you read on a business's customer service website about guarantees and promises is just so much wasted pixels until someone at the company gets personally involved to protect their reputation. So far neither, the seller, Amazon, nor Sony Ericsson particularly cares about their reputation. Somebody in China was paid money by SE to build a phone and they did a poor job or used defective components. I bought that phone from a disreputable seller. The guarantee I got from Amazon hasn't been fulfilled yet. Maybe it will. I tried to return the phone ten days after receiving it, and it's now been 90 days with no solution.
Glad your phone works. I would like to have an X10 that does what the manual says it will do.
Just checked the phone and now down to 44% with the average usage, definitely sounds link there is an issue somewhere on your phone
Have you checked in Settings>About Phone>Battery Use to see what it says is using your battery on mine is currently is
Phone Standby 49%
Phone Idle 37%
Display 13%
Not sure where the other 1% is
Display light is around 60%-70% I like it bright not dim that's why.
The charging light does stay on I preferred it going off when changed as it was easier to see when it was done, now the screen just flashes at 100%
and yes you don't get the notification light for missed calls or messages until you unplug the charger
Have you tried a formal complaint by email to Amazon Support regarding it and reporting the seller to the if it was a 3rd party company
Also SE has a warranty page 11 onwards
http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/download/1/655/094/1251813505/LegalAndWarranty_1222-9269_2_en_24.pdf
Do the same with SE log into their website and complain to them direct and tell them the local service centre wont touch it yet in their warranty that's where they tell you to go
as an option if you are not in a position to return it to the seller, have a read and try it, they give a 2 year warranty on mobiles.
Limited Warranty (Page 11)
Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB, SE-221 88 Lund, Sweden, (Sony Ericsson) or its local affiliated company, provides
this Limited Warranty for your mobile phone, original accessory delivered with your mobile phone, and/or your mobile computing
product (hereinafter referred to as “Product”).
Should your Product need warranty service, please return it to the dealer from whom it was purchased, or contact your local
Sony Ericsson Contact Center (national rates may apply) or visit www.sonyericsson.com
to get further information.
Thanks for the link to the "Important Information" pdf. I have a French version of that in the box, but I don't read French so the English version was illuminating.
If you read further down from where you quoted, you will notice that there are conditions to receiving warranty service from someone 1) other than the seller, and 2) if you are in a country different from the one where you purchased the phone.
Conditions
1. This Limited Warranty is valid only if the original proof of purchase for this Product issued by a Sony Ericsson authorised dealer specifying the date of purchase and serial number**, is presented with the Product to be repaired or replaced. Sony Ericsson reserves the right to refuse warranty service if this information has been removed or changed after the original purchase of the Product from the dealer.
2. Etc. ... I won't quote the rest of the list. The comment that is relevant to my situation is referenced by the double asterisks, which follow the list of conditions:
** In some countries/regions additional information (such as a valid warranty card) may be requested.
There was no "valid warranty card" in the box. Additionally, Amazon doesn't give a receipt with the serial number on it.
I suppose this is the reason the local service center refused to send the phone to the repair shop. When I asked if I could pay for the repairs, they said that they do not do paid repairs - only warranty repairs. This is why I'm waiting for Amazon's guarantee agents to approve my claim.
Concerning the statistics of the phone, I include this information for comparison to yours:
Under Settings>About Phone>Battery use I have this information:
"While last unplugged for 0 s."
The rest of the screen is blank. I take this to mean that according to the phone it has not been unplugged. The total time while unplugged is 0 seconds. Therefore there are no statistics on usage. Under 1.6, I occassionally looked at this information and during the day the screen was using the most battery. During the night the phone wireless was using the most battery. Now there are no statistics at all.
Under Settings>About Phone>Status>Battery Status
Battery status: Not charging
Battery level: 7%
Service state: In service
Up time: 10:18:14
This is why I think that the lower battery time is linked to the recharging component. Under 1.6 it appeared to be always off. Under 2.1 it appears to be always on, even though the status page says it is not charging. Yet, the charging light says the phone is charging.
Sorry, if I have taken too much of your time. It is nice to hear from people who have working phones, since I have no idea how mine is supposed to perform.
The time is not a problem at all hope you get it sorted eventually.
The unplug time is from each change, when you plug it in the usage is reset until you unplug the charger
or at least thats how it should work.
12 Hours? Wow, you're lucky - with light data usage and no telephone calls or messaging, my battery is at 0% after about three hours! Under Android 1.6, I was able to get through almost an entire day with heavy data usage, including most of the wireless functionality (GPS, bluetooth, etc)...
I'm a long-term Sony "fanboy" (as we are often referred to), but as a Government employee, I rely on my phone 24/7 and since these current issues are rendering my handset virtually useless, I'm seriously considering a switch to another device, even if it is from another manufacturer (the only reason I haven't done this yet is because I'm about to go on christmas leave for a month and will not be needing my phone during this time...)!
Seriously Sony, sort it out or offer users a method to revert back to Android 1.6...
