I recently bought a Universal Travel Charger from the Vodafone shop to charge my Xperia X10 mini pro. The charger works on other phones in the household but when it is connected to my phone, my phone won't work. When it's plugged in the touch screen on my phone behaves very erratically: the slider to unlock the phone won't "slide" properly; if I plug it in when it's unlocked, then I when I press any of the screen icons they seem to "buzz" under my finger and the applications won't open. If I plug it in when it's running an application, that app freezes or the screen freezes half way through displaying something.
My phone works perfectly well when disconnected from this charger and also works perfectly when connected to the supplied SE charger.
Has any one else had this problem with a Universal charger or might it be just a problem with my particular phone?
Thanks and happy new year,
Suzanne
All the X10's seem to be quite picky over what they will charge with, preferring on the whole to have the supplied charger. I thought I had killed my phone when I mistakenly used my sons LG charger on it over night, well they are both black plugs, black leads and micro usb connector and it was late at night! Phone dead as a dodo in the morning. His LG will charge with my SE charger tho.
I think it is a matter of searching around for exactly the right one, you need to get your volts and amps right! It's been the same story with car chargers too.
Thanks Suze, I think you're right. I looked around to buy another charger but the customer reviews online all say the same thing, that there's problems with the touchscreen while plugged in to the charger. I tried to buy a Sony Ericsson charger but they seem hard to come by with a UK plug.
Just now I plugged it into my Kindle charger and it seems to work fine! I've saved myself some money!
Many thanks for you help.
Suzanne.
Faced the same issue with a new SE charger.
While charging, Phone (X10 mini) does not recognize scroll, everything works like clicks!!
My observation was as below:
- Phone behaves erratically while using a 2-pin charger
- Phone behaves alright while using a 3-pin charger
Check if this solves your problem too.
You're right! I hadn't realised, but I agree that when the phone is plugged into a "bad" charger everything works like clicks and the touchscreen won't scroll at all.
My "good" se charger and my Kindle charger which is also "good" for the phone both have 3-pin UK plugs. But so does my "bad" oem phone charger, so I can't agree with your 2-pin vs 3-pin diagnosis.
This is a great forum, to get so many helpful replies so quickly. Thanks and Happy New Year everyone
