I got an Xperia X8 today and it didn't really have anything about the Internet in the scanty Manual that came in the box. I don't want to be able to accidentally connect to the Internet and would like to do most of my browsing on WiFi using the 3G service only occasionally. I have been able to get the phone onto wifi with no problem. I was led to believe if I turned the Network Mode to GSM that I wouldn't connect to the Internet. I did this but when I clicked on the Browser the Internet loaded and I was able to search for things. How can I turn this off so my download allowance isn't used up.
Also by the web address on the browser is a * and there is no close icon. If I choose to close window from the Window toolbar it closes but the homepage pops back up. Is there no way to completely close the browser as you would on a computer.
Can anyone help?
If you press Menu and select Arrange Widgets you can select Add Widget and then scroll through and tap on Data Traffic. This will add this to your home screens and you can use this to turn on and off the data connection. This will stop it connecting to the internet.
To get out of the browswer just press the back key until you come out to your home screen, there is no close button as such. The star button takes you to your bookmarks page.
Brilliant, thanks. The manual said the Data Traffic thing was in the Menus with wireless and I have been tearing my hair out trying to find it. Glad I found this forum!
Glad you got sorted, if you need any help with the phone as you play with it then you know where to ask.
