Compass not working

I've just bought a Z1 Compact, and the compass doesn't seem to be working.

Wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem, and if there any settings I might need to change to enable it?

Works fine for me in Maps, so please explain:

1) What it is you're trying to do

2) What you expect to see happen

3) What happens instead

That will helps us troubleshoot for you.

Basically I was trying out Google Maps in town today, and noticed the map view wasn't rotating as I changed direction.

And the little blue arrow at the side of my blue dot just points to the north of the map all the time, regardless of what direction I'm facing in.

@g_k,

Dial(phone app) - *#*#7378423#*#* > Service Tests > Compass > Perform the test.

Also, You can try to move your phone in the air in the form of a figure 8 for calibration ( Service tests - compass - picture below).

Just to mention, that some apps required internet connection and GPS have to be turned on.

Also you can try the following:

Settings > Apps > All > Maps > Clear data/cache > Force Stop > Restart the phone.

Have you clicked the bottom right button until the compass icon appears? Can you see the red compass on the top right, and is it keeping North as you move while holding the phone horizontally?

The figure-of-eight action works well to sort the compass even inside Maps if it ever gets out of wack - usually if it's pointing in the wrong direction rather than not moving at all, though.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Tried a couple of specialist compass apps last night & nothing was responding. Tried waving the phone around in figures of 8 to recalibrate, switching GPS & mobile data off & on, switching phone off & on etc - still nothing.

Today - all compass-related apps working fine, even with mobile data, WiFi & GPS switched off.

Reckon this one will have to be chalked up to Great Unsolved Mysteries...

Thanks alexrx

I've done what you said and my compass were calibrated. Although my internet was on and this may cause to calobrate. But i rotate the phone like calibrating a GPS (X,Y,Z rotation).
