CONTACTS MISSING..

my contacts are missing after upgrade to 2.1..

i have restored but no contacts available...

please help..

On the back up and restore front, firstly you needed to install the newer version of it and also it doesn't back up contacts that are synced elsewhere.  Did you have either Google or Sony Ericsson sync set up before?

Have you started the phone back up with the same gmail account as previously used?  If so then you can select it to sync by Menu>Settings>Accounts & Sync then tap google and ensure that contacts are ticked.  Then press Menu and select sync now and see if this recovers the numbers for you.

The other option is if you used sony ericsson sync, it is the same process as above.

Lastly if these don't work then did you import numbers originally from your sim card as they should still be there although you will have lost all the changes made in the meantime.

lucky i got back my contacts from my SIM which i have saved earlier...

handcent sms seems doesnt compatible in 2.1, when i received sms both notification pops out..the handcent and also the exiting sms application..

any suggestions for other better sms applications android market?

Glad you have your contacts back. 

Now that question I can answer :smileycool:... in the stock messaging app press Menu then settings and untick Notifications, you will then only get your Handcent notification.

The other app I have heard highly talked of is Chomp SMS although when I played with it I preferred Handcent, but it might be more to your liking.  Thats the joy of free apps, we get to pick and choose what suits our taste.

Yes, I prefer Handcent, too, though I use the stock messaging app on my X8.  I think you're going always going to have to switch off the stock messaging app's notification if you are using something else in its place and you only want one notification.
