Corporate WiFi issue

Hello,

I have a problem which may be difficult to resolve. The WiFi on my phone works perfectly everywhere except for at work.

Any web connection takes at least 20 seconds to make a connection (so a web page can take well over 20 seconds to load). Apps also suffer from this problem, taking > 20 seconds to load any data.

I've tried forgetting and re-adding the network but to no avail. This problem has been ongoing since I got the Z2 a few months ago, and it's been through multiple resets and updates.

As the phone works fine elsewhere I can only assume it's something to do with the corporate network setup. As far as I'm aware, nobody else is having WiFi problems (900 employees, each with phones, tablets, laptops etc). As you can imagine, the network is quite large, and I've tried from other locations on the site, but with no change.

The networking guys here don't really know how (or care enough) to fix the issue.

I can tell you that all traffic to and from the phone is proxied using websense, but other than that, it's a mystery.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Phil

Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

I'm afraid this doesn't sound like an issue that can be solved from the phone but something that needs to be looked into by your IT-department.

But when you connect to this network, do you need to enter any personal user/pass (either for the WiFi-connection itself or when you open the browser)? If so, i would start by trying a colleagues account if this only happens for you.

Thanks, I suspect that it would be easier to tell what's wrong if I could get the IT guys to look into the routing logs, but I don't think I'm a very high priority!

In terms of connection, there's nothing past the usual WiFi password. The traffic is silently / anonymously proxied.

I'm considering proxying my own connection via my workstation to solve the issue!

I've just been told by the support desk that there are no other phones in the building experiencing the issue and that I should update iOS.

Doesn't inspire a lot of confidence, does it?

I don't think they even bothered to investigate the logs with the MAC address I gave them *sigh*.

Are there any tools I can run to see which hops are being slow for me?

Sorry to hear that Slightly_frowning_Face

I'm not sure but i think you need root access to view the network logs. I found some apps for it but they all required root.
It's a bit strange though that this only happens for you when you don't have any personal account. Do you know if other phones on Android 4.4 works fine on this network?

As far as I'm aware, it's only my phone that is experencing issues (and only on this network).

It's hard to diagnose the problem though, as I do not have control of the access point, switches, routers, proxies, and firewalls in the building, and the internal support desk have no interest in helping me.

I've managed to find a Z in the office and it also experiences slow page connection times...

The only advice i can give you in that case is to keep asking your IT-department to investigate this.
