I didn't understand it completely , could you help a little bit more by giving more details about what you mean by filtering ?
If I already got it correct then looks like it's not possible with the stock messaging app. You will have to look after a 3rd party app that does that.
How about using Hangouts as the default messaging app ?
If you want to do that, then go to messaging app > options > settings > under general settings, select default SMS app > again select default sms app > Select hangouts ( if it's already installed on your phone).
