It's January 8, 2011, and the update to 2.1 is STILL not available in my area? What's the DEAL? I HATE this phone. I am SO disappointed. I love love loved my old Sony Ericsson. It lasted 4 years. I miss it. This one is the WORST phone I have ever had. It drops every other call. It automatically answers a call waiting call without my choice, and drops the orignal caller. It is S L O W . It locks up. It shuts itself off and won't turn back on. The camera is slow to react, always. The pictures are blurry. The battery lasts less than 12 hours, with the lowest possible settings for display and screen timeout. And I thought maybe if I stuck it out for the update to 2.1, something would change. But apparently I will NEVER EVER get the update. I am due for an upgrade in August and I am DEFINTELY switching to an iPhone.
If you really want 2.1 you and neither
PC Companion

Nor SEUS (Sony Ericcson Update Service) work
you can always use method(s) that will work
through the XDA developers which will install the generic version or any other version available.

Ok, it's not that those things don't work. It's that EVERYTHING still tells me my phone has the latest software. And I have 1.6. Is it still not available or what? I'm SO confused at this point.
Check with your Carrier, has they released the Android 2.1 update?
If it's AT&T there's no way you'll get an update through SEUS or PC Companion, you're only option is the XDA Developers
Thanks y'all. I guess I'll try it. But here's my question now. Is it really worth it? Will it change anything about the basic suckiness of the phone? Or is it just a bad model, and I just get a new phone? The call-waiting thing is really the biggest problem. EVERY time I get a call waiting call, it immediately answers the second call and puts the original call on hold. I just can't have that.
yes I think its worth it to get the update. more apps, less lag among other things. if you don't like it you can always flash 1.6 back.
I tried to download the files needed. But there are SO MANY files and there's not the x10flash.bot or whatever that I need. I'm no dummy when it comes to this type of thing, but definitely not a pro, so I'm kind of lost. Oh well. I guess I'll stick with this crappy phone the way it is until August, then I'll get the iPhone.
Actually there are only 2 files that you need to download
1) the Flashwer
2) the firmware (x10i or x10a or SO-01)

follow the steps written by gfgodoy
Here's what happens:
You download the two files listed by Binary
Put the extracted firmware in the firmware directory (along with loader.sin)(10 sin files together)
Open the .bat file (type in 1, 2 , 3 or 4 depending on your windows version).
It will ask you: Please plug Xperia in flash mode so,
Turn off your phone, press back and plug the usb cable! and Hit enter ( you should be quick, if you take to long it may not work, you have about 5 seconds. You know you are in flash mode because de GREEN LED on your X10 will stay ON)
Your device will stay with the screen off while flashing. The .bat will be running and running like mad for about 2-3 minutes. After that WAIT for windows to tell you that it has finished. Hit ENTER. The .bat WILL CLOSE.
On your device: Unplug your USB cable, wait for it to boot. I waited for like 2 minutes and nothing so I had to press POWER again.
A device and a camera with a BLUE arrow will appear on your device screen. WAIT, WAIT, WAIT. It will reboot, and take like 2 minutes on sony ericson screen.
It will boot up eventualy.
Ok, cool. I will try it. Thanks!
