Remote Play Connection Issues - WiFi / Bluetooth Conflict / Interference?

I have been looking forward to this feature on my Z3c and it was finally released yesterday. Connecting to my PS4 and using the touch screen controls works flawlessly. However, as soon as I connect my DualShock 4 via Bluetooth, lag and connection issues occur. Turn off Bluetooth, and everything is fine again.

I experienced a simular issue with a Moga Bluetooth controller a few weeks ago - after it was paired with my device, my Wifi connections became intermittant and unstable, even when the device was disconnected. Eventually fixed the issue by deleting the controller pairing from the Bluetooth settings.

My point is, is there an issue with Bluetooth and Wifi conflicting with each other? I have tried changing settings on the router but I am convinced the issue is on my phone. Bluetooth works fine, Wifi is fine, but both together I believe there is an issue.

Does anyone else experience the same problem, or have a fix? I was looking forward to Remote Play with a DS4 but at the moment it is unplayable.

I know it doesnt help you but my experiance is actually getting better... I purchased a Z3 tablet purely for Remote Play and at one point I'd boxed the thing up in disgust ready to return it as I had constant connection dropouts, even after replacing my Virgin Router with their latest Superhub 2 (dual band wireless N). My PS4 is connected via ethernet and sitting 8ft away from the router I'd still get an unplayable connection.

For some reason I decided to unbox it and try again... I experimented turning off the location and it was better but I still had a few drop outs, however over the weeks these issues have gone away somehow and it just works as I expect it to / it's sold as. There have been no updates applied as far as I'm aware (Virgin could have updated my router firmware I guess) but I do think due to the high data rate to make remote play work, these issues of lag and dropouts must be down to individual setup / hardware which is frustrating. Sony should advise a minimum spec setup and we shouldn't have to turn off services to make it work.

Over xmas I used Remote Play from my parents house, so over the internet and they only have a 2G router and suprisingly it was perfect! So I don't think 5G routers are essential, they just help with other wifi device interference I guess.

For now mine is perfect, I have it paired with my dual shock using a Sony game mount and can play anywhere in the house without problem. I do sympathise with those who have problems though as I was originally tearing my hair out in frustration! Apart from re-booting your router and disabling everything on the device except WiFi and Bluetooth (maybe even turn off the cell on the phone if possible?) I don't know what else to suggest....

It seems a lot of people using z3/z3c have this issue. I am also experiencing it and now have completely gave up using remote play - one of the reasons I got z3c in a first place. I have tried almost everything suggested on this forum and it still does not work. I turned off all the apps, backround data, tried on plane mode ... you name it. The only thing I did not try is changing router settings as I am not able to do it on mine. I have a fibreoptic connection from 'Hyperoptic' and I can only use their router for internet connection/wi-fi therefore it seems like I will never be able to use remote play feature. You should not have to buy new routers/changing their settings in the first place to be able to use the feature.

I cannot believe Sony has overlooked this issue on z3/z3c completely. Surely they must have tested remote play feature in which case they would have found that problem. Not fixing it before market launch is just plane lazy. I feel sony has really let down gamers here. Shame on you Sony and I hope you will find a way to fix this some time.

Just for the record: my phone is fully updated so whatever update Sony rolled out that was supposed to fix this is clearly not working.

Okay I only struggled for a day. After reading all this advice, here's what you do:

Turn off location services (helped 10%)

Turn off mobile date (helped 80%)

Turn off location icon in system settings (didn't seem to work at all).

I now have no lag at all Grinning_Face Also have latest firmware. And a crappy router. It works, good job everyone.

Sony MUST add Direct CONNECT on Xperia , like PS Vita . It 's unique solution, There is another...

I had the same issues, but the real problem is 2.4ghz interference.

Switching to 5 Ghz network resolve everything!!!!

Turning off gps, lte helps very little, the real problem is DS4 with 2.4 ghz Wi-Fi.

Now all work great!! It works also with last update that increase fps on remote play.

Trust me, i've been playing for a month now and never had single connection problem!

I had lots of problems with remote play on my Z3 tablet.
I solved them all by doing these things...
Router changed to 5ghz
Airplane mode switched on (my z3 was mobile Internet enabled)
Location services switched Off!
Completely lag free, on high frame rate and high res 😉

I bought a Z2 tablet for RP. I also bought a dual band router for an additional 120$. Unfortunately I'm a bit far away from the modem & router room (10m) and even when connected to 5GHz RP doesn't work for me at all.

For some reason I get very weak signal from my router for 5GHz. So I often cannot even connect to PS4 via RP because it would say "my internet speed is too slow to start RP. But I noticed that even if I move my tablet right in front of the router and get full 3 signal bars, RP still works like crap with constant lag, stutterings, and disconnections.

Managed to get remote play up and running over 2.4ghz wifi, needs more testing but I thought I would share my setup and what I've done in the hope it would help others.

Initial problems:

Sky broadband, need I say more really, router is total c**p.

master phone socket upstairs so router had to go there. (BT why would you fit a master phonesocket upstairs ?!!)

smart tv, 2 laptops, 2 z3 mobiles, media computer, sky box, PS4 all on 2.4ghz wifi... you get the picture

connect remote play, drops as soon as I get in game.

Bought  TP-LINK TL-PA4030KIT 500Mbps Powerline Adapter with 3 Ports - Twin Pack.Synched and initially hardwired PS4 to router. I then had problems as soon as I tried using the controller (note at this point I was not pairing the controller to the Z3) had issues where the controller would work intermittantly and pressing ps button caused connection loss.

Final solution:

Wifi channel changed to separate from other overlapping signals

Reduce the load on wifi, hard wire where possible PS4, tv and Media computer now running through powerline.

Controller now paired to Z3 when want to remote play (note I was in same room as PS4 when remote playing which is why I didn't initally pair)

At the moment connection appears stable with slight stutter now and again, improvements needed, I'd probably need to switch laptops off to reduce load further.

Anyhow I've probably got one of the worst setups for wifi possible and its working on 2.4ghz.

At this point I entirely understand why Sony reccomend 5GHz. My main wish though would be for Sony to add the option to wifi direct connect to the PS4 like the vista and PS tv on the Z3.

Same as a recent post, had remote play so unusable i gave up for 4 months.

Got Z3 for this reason and PS4, loads of laptops and wifi gadgets on 2.4ghz basic router

I did a Z3 update,  i hated the new update for phone use and i did it about a month ago march or april 2015

Set it up again as want this working for when i become obsessed with MGSV phantom pain after my holiday in summer

so far it all works...played assassins creed black flag on it for 2 hours and it had a couple of graphic pixle issues for 1 second (lag) then gone, and the sound from tv and phone is on and phone is about half a second behind but im sure this is normal considering how it works?

Anyway, think xperia knew of issue with DS4 and phones , bluetooth etc or whatever and fixed it

I sit in next room to router, PS4 is connected via wifi to 2.4ghz and phone to 2.4ghz, nothing turned off on phone as had facebook messages and emails coming in with notifaction noise while playing to confirm this so i havent turned off the mobile data, DS4 connected / paired to phone too and all other gadgets running too.

Still i want to get the 5ghz BT dual band upgrade kit above to free up more signal.

can i just check what i do

1 - BT dual band upgrade kit connected to present 2.4ghz router with an ethernet cable

2 - connect phone Z3 to new SSID (given out from BT upgrade box) meaning thats on 5ghz wifi to new BT box

3 - connect PS4 via ethernet to old 2.4ghz router

4 - possibly connect at least half of the wifi gadgets in house to new SSIS 5ghz router / BT box to free up band width to help

would this be correct set up for no lag issues with things etc?

also im think of connecting now it works via my work wifi at a golf course, while im sure it wont work or will lag cut out etc itsjust to show my mates the graphics on the Z3's beautiful 4k screen even if for 1 min and game only in 1080p not 4k

Would it be possible, as there is the remote turn on PS4 while on wifi option for this reason, surely works the same but slower connection?

many thanks and wish everyone a decent connection in future, still no post on here from Sony!! id like to know there set up from the ads people have seen, what router, distance etc and what caused the issues if now fixed, same as xperia, what changed in the update?

ive yet to test this for a second time incase was a fluke, but then also going to buy the extra stuff to help

cheers

Mike
