New Z5C, new SIM. It took several tries for the SIM to be recognised at all and when I _finally_ made it stop sliding out of that little tray, the phone restarts several times an hour. (No message, just restarts).
The SIM is fine in another phone, removing the SD card doesn't help. Phone is fully updated. With no SIM the phone doesn't restart. No message is displayed when the phone restarts.
Now what ? Short of throwing the phone in a bin and walking away I don't know what to do. Should I try to get the phone swapped? Can I somehow put padding behund the SIM? Can I obtain a spare SIM tray and _glue_ the SIM into it ?
All ideas welcome.
Get a brand new SIM card and report back.
Just wondering, are you using the correct SIM card or did you cut/trimmed a SIM card ?
(update) it's getting worse. Initially, before the SIM was delivered, the phone seemed okay. Problems started with the SIM but have carried on with the SIM removed !
When sitting idle on the desk, it restarts every two to 10 minutes. It's done it 277 times in much less than a day according to 'diagnostics' - WITHOUT either a SIM or a SD card installed! I've used the 'Companion' app and done a 'repair' which made no difference.
This is a brand new phone, the most expensive phone I've ever bought, and was a present for my daughter; it's a disaster. When I see the number of complaints on this forum, I wish I'd known in advance how problematic Sony phones were. I can't afford to go buy a Samsung or a Nexus now I've spent so much on this Sony and really don't know what to do.
Strangely if you use the phone to browse the web while on WIFI, it doesn't restart. Put it down on the desk, wait a few minutes.... yes, there it goes again.
Baffling.

@Rilian If it is a brand new phone can you not take it back to where you purchased it.....also regarding the number of complaints you have seen on this forum remember that 99% of the users who use the forum have issues with or are seeking advice on using their phones....you rarely have people coming on to praise their phones, so therefore there are a lot more people in the world who do not have issues
So if you can go back to where you purchased it & explain this issue with the sim etc...did you follow @uliwooly advice
