With seeing the number of disconcerted Satio users, thought Id join in, as I feel let down by this phone and SE.
I'm a design Engineer in the Electronics world and I know that if I was to release a part to market as bad as this phone, heads would roll.
I've been a satisfied SE customer for 4 years, with the 750i and k800i phones. These were great phones. I thought I'd jump on the touch screen bandwagon and wanted something snazzy.
Step up Satio......after waiting patiently delay after delay, I finally rushed to get one.......My first Satio was buggy and according to Orange's shop assistant, it was slow, so I sent it back and received another.
This time, I put up with the unpredictable responsivness and hoped the software updates wuld cure the phone. After all, this was not SE's 1st venture into Smartphones, and really it's down to the software, and subsequently ironing out the bugs.
I've updated the software 3 times I believe, and tried every month, only to be told by Update service that I already have the latest update.
Here's a list of what I have to put up with
1) Sometimes, the phone freezes.
2) takes ages for the screen to refresh when say going to messaging first thing in the morning say (is it waiting for the hard drive to wake up :smileyhappy:) .. Oh look ! There's an emoticon I wish I could have on my Satio!
3) The display fails to turn off, when the key pad is locked, sometimes draining the battery whilst in your pocket
4) Whilst talking, you an lock the keypad, and then the display will go off...but if you accidentally slide your finger over the ambient light sensor, the display pops up and refuses to extinguish. Of course, locking the screen and dropping the call is a bad mistake as your phone fails to let go of the call, and you have to remove the battery
5) Accelerometer is temperametal
6) GPS is a joke, even when outside
7) When you use the video recorder, you can bearly hear the sound. "Say that again...I need to carry the headphone/mic around? So why can one switch to speakerphone and talk, yet not manage the same sound level when recording video?"
😎 I still can't figure the calender out, despite reading the manual.....it sometimes reminds you of an event....sometimes not.
Things I miss
1) batttery indicator (%age) - have to go to Google maps to get this figure
2) No option for date and time stamp on photos, unlike k800i
3) No emoticons (little things make a difference)
Thinking about this phone....it seems to be a camera with a phone bolted on,.......with the phone now faulty/poorly designed/integrated
The Nokia 5600 (out before the Satio) isn't feature rich as this, but it works way way way way better! More robust in the software part. GPS is second to none. Internet access is speedy even when on the same network provider.
My colleagues at work look at the phone and think..'Wow! Great looking phone'. Sadly that's where I come clean and tell them it's an example in poor product design. Big brand such as Sony have really let themselves down
As a designer, I can understand the complexity of such a product and the reason SE got it so wrong is poor product management, and probably lack of skills within the company to take on such a market. Marketing probably pushed the release to save embarrassment and any hardware problems were unresolved, or resolved in later batches of the phones. iPhone is a premium branded product, and Apple execute, knowing that any problem leads to embarasment which gets reported in the media and potentially hurt their share price. SE on the other hand is small potatoes, so even with tis poor product, the media will not make a big deal about it and hence it's allowed to get away with it. May dent their financials, because they invest in development and subsequently have to can the product thereby halting any future revenues. If I wanted to buy the Satio at the time, the price was 500GBP I believe. I'm sure there's substantial margin on that, so let's say they needed 350GBP / unit to break even to pay for fancy adverts and development. The Satio only remained on the shelves for <6months I believe, with vendors giving it bad press off the record.
I do sometimes pick up a SE phone in the search for a new one, and think will this be any better? Once bitten twice shy
Samsung and HTC seem to have better loyalty and track record in the smartphone market........HEad is telling me to not be a sucker and think with my head.
What I don't understand is, the Satio was withdrawn from sale in the UK high street <6 months from the eventual launch date. The warranty/Guarantee on the phone is 12months. Why didn't SE do the honest (loyalty to their customers) thing and do a product recall if they knew how bad the phone was? Software and hardware!
Why stop supporting the phone? Does SE naively believe it's a great product and works fine? If so, why isn't a 12MP, 16m colour touchscreen such as the Satio still for sale according to the SE website?
satio our wishes for a simple software update,a new
I've got the same problems on satio, but SE blindly denies they have to do any to fix them. I've bought an old phone as a replacement for normal use, keeping the satio for what its sole capability is: a camera (yes, its a camera sold as under the tag of phone), and have decided not to make the mistake of purchasing an SE phone ever again.
I have the same problems and the most annoying is the touch screen when I need to use any button on the other end button will go on so I must restart the phone several times and remove the battery for almost 5 min then it works ok for only a few short minutes and when I took it to SE they told me I have to bay in advance and don't guarantee the job her in Qatar.
hi, i;m use sony ericsson satio purchased before 8 mnths , now a days it automatically switches to flight mode n d phone hangs up asking "INSERT SIM CARD" i even repaird the software using pc campanion somone please say how to solve tis problem.
Dear Sony Ericsson Satio disappointees!
I've recently received my Samsung Galaxy S2 phone. WOW! This is leagues above the Satio. I've played with the Play (which has Android, if not Gingerbread), and I have to say WOW! This is a beast of a phone.
What Samsung provide on the phone and for free download goes beyond generous.
I've only had the phone for 24hours and so still familiarising myself with the Android GUI such as answering a call
That said, it didn't come with a manual, but having come from a touchscreen Symbian, most things are intuitive. You expect certain features, and then you just do it on this fone.
Not to say I haven't had probs, such as moving to a packet data connection, I go on to E(GPRS) which simply isn't fast enough for modern websites. You need HSDPA or 3G which on my network, has good coverage in my location. I played around with it and googled a few things, and I think I have it switching to the higher data rate protocols now. You certainly notice the step up in connection speed.
Google maps is awesome. BBC iPlayer is flawless. The internet browser is a treat. The 4.3in screen is a treat.:smileyhappy:
One thing I was dreading was porting contacts from Satio and the microSDHC card. Did I have a problem? NOT A SAUSAGE! Ridiculously easy ! (Hands up those of us who remember the chore of moving from a none Symbian phone to the Satio, and having to re-type contact names:smileyconfused:) I even managed to view the images and videos on my microSDHC card I had from my Satio so easily.
Never tried a HTC phone, or was tempted to pay the big bucks for an iPhone. The Galaxy S2 is super thin......I need to purchase a rubber case to protect it. Touchscreen is soooooo lite.
The Andriod OS has a ridiculous amount of tweaking capability. Not a cheap phone, but neither was the Satio, and that didn't work at all!
Once your contracts are up, you should get off the Satio. I'm going to sell mine for $100 on those mobile recycling pages. Recoup some of my losses with the Satio.
Satio is an embarassment. Can't view internet connectons whilst charging, since it drains the battery quicker that it can be charged, no 3.5mm jack, Network connections drop far too easily, tho' that could be firmware related). The software bugs ..........too many to quote. To cap it off, SE release a phone they simply can't support leaving the paying customer with a product that doesn't do everything it's advertised to, is just plain disrespectful. I seriously considered the Arc and Neo recently despite my frustration with the Satio, but now I'm glad I didn't.
Make the change, if cost is not an issue.
satio hello can you help me when I turn on my phone is branded on me I have the sony ericsson xperia x8 can you help me?
