SMS Problem and Question on Xperia X10

Hi, everyone! I'm newbee in this forum and also newbee in Android.

I got my white coloured X10 two weeks ago and of course I play around on my gadget, I'm very satisfied with this powerfull and beautiful handset, I love it!

One thing that I found a problem with my X10 is when I try to send an SMS, in compose new message window when I click the recipient field (on the top of window), this recipient field could not find/read my Phonebook.

This field is not automatically find the name in phonebook when I type some letters of recipient name, I have to enter the phone number of the recipient, of course I cannot remember the number in phonebok one by one.

I imported all contacts from my previous handset by exporting them into *acv file and copy it to the memory card.

Anyone has experienced like my problem?

Another thing is when I'd like to send bussines card, it's only have send via bluetooth no option to send via message.

Thank you from Indonesia...

Hello friend, Welcome to the forum.

Well you have told that you are new to Android. Let me tell one thing about Android. Android does not support the common contact or business card formats. You told that you copied contacts from your older phone to X10 in .acv format. This format is not supported by X10. You will have to enter these contacts manually to X10 or you can import contacts from your SIM card. I know, it is a troublesome thing. Another option is to export all contacts from your older phone to your Google account or SE account. After this, you can use Google sync or SE Sync service to import all these contacts to X10.

The default SMS application does not have the feature to send business cards as messages. You can download a third party SMS application named HandcentSMS from the market, which has the feature on it. The application is available free on Android Market. This application is good and can take your texting experiences to new heights.

You said you created .acv files did you mean .vcf as acv is a photoshop file .vcf is a vCard or Business Card file

A VCF file is a vCard, a vCard is a file format standard for personal data interchange, specifically electronic business cards

These can be exported direct into your Xperia contacts list from your old phone or Microsoft Outlook.

Hi Er Kannan and ag4751,

Thank you for your quick reply.

Sorry for mistype of .acv, actually what I've done is export contacts from my old phone to microSD card which later on I used in my new X10 with .vcf format and I restore it from this memory card.

I also tried syncing with google mail and SE sync but the problem still remain the same, if I add new contact in X10, this new contact can be read automaticaly in recipient field what I mentioned before.

Third party SMS manager can solve this problem, but I prefer to use the bundled software to SMS since it has not adv. banner...;)

I hope the update of Android 2.x in X10 will solve the problem.

Regards

That should not happen. I guess you might try a repair flash of your phone's firmware using Sony Ericsson Update Service program which you can download from their website, install on your PC and run it.

When you imported your numbers in to your phone book what did the phone default to in the drop down box next to the number on their contact page.  If this isn't 'mobile' then the SMS apps won't see it as a contact that can recieve a text message.  It is a bit of a pain going through them and manually changing them but it is a one off job to set up.
