Hi, the other night, something strange happend with my text messaging. I'd been sending text messages during the evening, then I went to reply to a text as normal and the keyboard had changed without me doing anything? It changed from the normal "qwerty" keyboard to the old style keyboard, with the abc on button "a", def on button "b", ghi on button "c" if that makes sense, like on old phones???
It was like that all night. Switched my phone off at night as normal, switched it back on again in the morning and it was back to the "qwerty" keyboard again. Does anyone know what caused this to happen, it was really strange!!
And I quite liked that old style keyboard, I dont know what the technical term for it is, but it was much quicker and less mistakes typing a message than the qwerty keyboard?
If anyone knows why this happened? Or how you can switch between different keyboard input formats, I'd love to know!!
Thanks very much,
Andy
I think the type of keyboard you are referring to is called a T9 keyboard. I didn't think it came as one of the preinstalled keyboards on the phone but I could be wrong there. You can change your keyboard input method by long-pressing any text box, then select Input Method, and then select your desired keyboard from the list of keyboards that shows up. Hope this helps!
Hi, thanks very much for your reply, and yes thats the one, the T9 keyboard!!
I've just tried what you mentioned and can't get the T9 keyboard back??
I did a long press on a text box and "Input Method" comes up, and all I've got is "Default Input, Chinese Keyboard, Android, Korean and Japanese"? Nothing else? And the default and Android is slighty different from the qwerty keyboard I've had last few days!!
It's really weird how my phone suddenly changed to a T9 keyboard?!
It's a mystery!!!
Thanks,
Andy
I'm sure I just replied to this, but my reply seems not to have appeared. Might you have installed another keyboard at some point, such as the HTC one? That has a T9 option. If you go to Serttings - Language & keyboard, any additional keyboards on the phone need to have a tick by them if you wish to be able to select them in the way jrdwn explained above. If the tick is removed, the keyboard will still be stored on the phone, but you just won;t be able to select it in until it is ticked.
In the input method on mine you can select Chinese Keyboard which is T9 and in the settings of the keyboard button at bottom next to return you can select either Chinese or English.
As Sushi already commented, the HTC_IME keyboard from Jonasl over at XDA developers is my keyboard of choice and I use T9 on this for my super fast one thumb texting!
