Great news for users of Sony Xperia M and M Dual. I contacted Sony today and I was informed that the model (c1904) and (c1905) , and M dual also ,will receive Android 4.4 kit kat soon. A big Thanks to Sony. Yes, your device will receive the Android 4.4 version of Kit Kat.
We are very happy to hear that from Sony, I think Android 4.4 Kit Kat is the last update for Sony Xperia M.
Thank You.
Peter Patricks.
@euphorics
Euphoria you always advocated Sony saying that we were asking for an exalted version of android kit kat for the Sony Xperia M, users always complaining that we'd make the same question would be available when the kit kat for our Xperia M and when we move applications to the SD card. But now it's too late, there's no use complaining to me I'm never joining Sony money to buy a Motorola Moto G version 2 that will certainly bring me most or all updates. If we manifest is because Sony never listen to their customers and do whatever they want with their smartphones. Euphoria So that's good for you to see the disregard of the manufacturer with its customers. I feel much more it's too late to complain because the models Xperia M, L, C, and SP among others did not receive the kit kat android version. I feel much more it's too late, Sony never the worst appliance manufacturer and after sales support in the world.
Rafaelhilario, the first my nickname is Euphorics (or can be just Euphoric), not how u wrote Euphoria, i think u are not be glad if i'm calling you like Rafaelhilaria or something like that?
Second i'm not always advocated how u wrote, i just wrote my opinions... This forum is for that, that's right? To help others or to ask help if u need too, to write your wishes or your opinions and to listen others wishes and opinions and ect., i'm right? It's not calling advocated how u want to say... it's just opinions... I have right to do that like others have right to write own too... Third, what do u want to say with that: "So that's good for you to see the disregard of the manufacturer with its customers", sorry i'm not perfect in english, so i don't understood yrs ideas... What do u want to say with that? What did u wrote in end of message i did not understood... I'm tried but... Can u somehow explain yrs minds in differents words and ect.? I'm not so good speakers in english, u writing about something feels, what i can't understand... and i don't think that here is problem with my less knowledges in english...
"...if a lower amount of free RAM is available to applications after a new release of the operating system (due to increased capabilities in the system), device speed will eventually be impacted. This is the main reason that a device cannot be indefinitely upgraded to newer releases of Android."
Excerpts from Xperia M white paper.
I guess it was just not worth for Xperia M to update it to Android 4.4 if the device performance were to be affected. Although, Xperia M2 and T2 Ultra, both have 1 GB of RAM. Gets even worse, Xperia E1 has 512 MB RAM.
Nah, CM11 runs just fine(infact, better than 4.3 stock, i always have around 300-400MB of RAM free) so RAM is not the issue. This phone has a dual core krait and adreno 305, it is a mid range phone, but it's very powerfull.
Yes, but the custom ROM lacks some features which are available in official Sony's Android 4.4 OS, most importantly two things according to me - The Sony UI and "feel".
Check out the first look of Xperia Z running Android KitKat and you will notice the differences. (I am sure you already know.)

Custom ROM and official Sony's Kitkat might have differed in many ways with the latter probably requiring more ROM as well as RAM for the new features. So I think we can't say for sure that Xperia M was optimized for KiKat. Although I myself find it hard to believe but we can't deny the possibility as it was released before the release of Android Kitkat. And yeah, I know, so did Z, Z1 and ZL.
On the other hand, Xperia T, TX, V, SP and L are also "left for dead", all quite better than Xperia M.
So I guess we can't say anything for sure. Only Sony can give correct reason.

Can you link to the instructions you followed to root xperia M and install CM11 KK 4.4.2?
Yes, but all these devices are older than Xperia M.
But the hardwares embedded in them, I think, should be able to run KitKat. All these smartphones were "high-specification". Even Xperia Z & ZL are 1-2 months older than SP. If they can run Android 4.3, it very likely that there shouldn't be any problem with KitKat.
Droping plans to update nice phones (Xperia SP/L/....), abandoning new (although not latest) phone (Xperia M), I don't know what is up with Sony. Judging from the various forums, users are pretty upset and angry, including myself. Not so good for Sony.
