Transfer Apps from Phone to SD Card

Hi,

I am new to all this smart phone stuff so I appologise if this is answered elsewhere (I have looked but can not find the answer). Can anyone help by explaining in very simple terms how to move apps and any other files which are safe to move from the phone to the SD card. I have downloaded and installled File Commander but do not know where to locate the Apps folder (it is not marked). I need to free up some space as I can nolonger download any more apps.

Many thanks

Rob

If you can move apps to SD then open Settings then Apps and swipe to all then locate and open said apps and if available it will say move to external storage or words to that effect, As for data like images etc then I find it safer to connect your phone to a Pc and copy and paste the files then remove from internal storage but not the apps

Hi Thommo,

Thanks for the reply unfortunately there is no option to move to external storage only to internal storage. I was hoping there was a work around that would allow the transfer. I guess I'll have to keep looking Slightly_smiling_Face

Many thanks

The work-a-round is to root but in doing so may void your warranty

Do you have a computer, chiefly? Can you connect your phone to a computer? Because this phone does not allow to move almost anything, but is is perfectly possible and safe and you can do that very easely on a computer after changing a couple of setings on the phone.

You will have to do this because, as I understand, when you tried to do as Thommo correctly told you, your phone has the button “Move to SD card” is greyed out on all applications and not allowing you to move them. So you will have to find a way around. It has to be done in three parts on any order.

I don’t know which your phone is, but all Android phones are very much the same, so the terms used may differ a little according to the model. You may have to find out by yourself.

1st part
Go to Settings, tap Developer options, tap to mark USB debugging case. Go back.

If are not using a Linux OS on your computer, probably you just have to connect the phone to the computer USB port, it will find the phone, and will display it on the explorer.

2nd part
If you are using Windows you will have to install a driver for the on the computer. To do it, o the following page, read it and follow the instructions religiously.
http://developer.android.com/tools/extras/oem-usb.html
Then, you can see your phone on your computer like above.

3rd part
Now you have to be able to change the apps.to the external SD card (mounted inside your phone), but you cannot just move the *.apk files that you see on the computer like you can do on a computer because a part of those files will have to stay on the original memory card with the OS. As you can’t divide them yourself, that has to be done by a third party program. There are a few available for free. You can try this one or chose any other one: Download the first one on the page ("for PC") and install it on your computer. Try to understand how it works, it is intuitive. When you connect the phone and the program starts, you can move the apps. from one card to the other and back on the "User Apps" window. Please, understand that no system apps and even some user apps can ever be moved. The wallpaper screen that you use must also be on the phone card; otherwise it will not load.

This program has other utilities that you can use. I use it only for moving apps. The updater, for instance usually offers older files than what you get directly from Google Play. For back-ups I use MyPhoneExplorer.

This descrition is long, but easy to follow, I hope. Tell us if you could do what you needed.

Just wanted to say thanks for the info, sorry it has taken me so long to reply but I have been away for the last few weeks and wasn't able to access this forum.
