So I bought my brand new SONY Xperia Z1 compact and finally got my SIM card to use it. Getting the little plastic SIMcard holder was super hard. I put the SIM card in, properly, and the phone won't read it! I'm 100% sure it's not a problem of the card because I tested it on another phone before. Now I can't even get the SIM card out. I have a suspicion I bought a defect Phone!? How does the warranty work?? Extremely sad! Please HELP!

I’m having the same problem with the sim card and tray, but not on a new phone. I’ve had my Sony Xperia Z1 since April 2014 and it was working fine till 2 weeks ago when, in the middle of texting it just started vibrating and wouldn’t stop (anyone else had this problem?). It got so hot and nothing I did would turn it off. At this time, (regrettably) I took the sim card out not knowing there was a tray for it. This absolutely, ridiculous tiny bit of plastic got promptly lost on my way to the shop for help, (the phone was still vibrating and getting hotter). They managed to stop the phone by pushing up the volume switch at the same time as pressing in the on/off switch…( just in case this happens to anyone else!)
I had to then order the tray and, after 12 days, it finally arrived today –brilliant… NOT! It won’t fit in the slot anymore. I know it is the correct tray, all the codes are right, but I cannot close it and the phone won’t recognise the sim card now, despite the sim card working fine in an old phone of mine. Any suggestions before I throw the phone out of the window? Am I supposed to now send the phone away after being without it already for 2 weeks? Is this under warranty? I’d appreciate any advice thank you.
Sony, why do you have to have a tray in the first place? It’s ridiculous! It’s fiddly and obviously, very easy to lose!
I am new to Sony having used Nokia for years except a small time with samsung
Of all the Phone I have used this has got to be the most complex way of inseting a sim card everything about it is hit and miss from the silly tray to the instructions .
When it enters the phone there does not seem to be any guide it just seems to flop in if you are lucky .
My oridignal Idea was to swap the sim card at weekend given me a one for work "Nokia Due to it unbreakable construction "and My fragile Sony at weekend .
But after swaping sim card twic just left it IN !!!!

i found out the solution, even it said sim card not detected. try removing sd card and sim card too. then put sim card first and then your sd card. worked for me
Had the same problem. My sister had the sense to use tweezers. She got it out in just seconds!
Even if you purchase the product in NZ their service is
Have just inherited a Z3 Compact. I ordered a new SIM for it and spent the whole day trying to get it up and running -- very frustrating -- was darned near ready to chuck the whole thing out the window -- when I found this post. Silly as the solution sounds (sorry! but it does sound silly), I tried it -- taking the SD card out, then putting the SIM in, then the SD back, then turning the thing on... and it WORKED. Thanks Vivek0007!
