Unable to connect to mobile network when roaming

Hello,

I have a z1 and currently live in Europe. My phone works well at home. When I travel to other European countries my phone automatically connects to mobile networks when roaming. When I go to the U.S., however, I am unable to connect to any mobile network. I contacted my carrier in Europe and they said I should automtically be able to connect to AT&T or T-Mobile. Roaming is enabled on my phone.

When I do a manual search for available netowrks they all appear to be blocked (there is a circle with a line through it next to all the networks that appear). My mobile carrier said there are no blocks on my account.

I am unable to set a new APN because it will not save. I already did a software repair using Bridge for Mac but the problem persists. Does anyone have any suggestions to fix this?

Thank you in advance for you help,

Mark

You maybe have a country or network band lock on your phone so yes your account may have no blocks but the phone may

Is your phone network branded? perhaps that's the issue. Thommo beat me to it.

another thing to try is to boot on safe mode and enter the APN manually, it might work

Thank you for your reply. I bought the phone unlocked in the U.S. but it works well in Europe. Ironically it will not work in the country where I bought it. Is there a way to check if there are any blocks on it?

Thank you. I will give that a try. Will get back to you and let you know if it works.

That's quite odd, boot on safe mode and try to add AT&T's apn settings

So I restarted my phone in safe mode but still have the same problem. I'm still unable to save a new APN and all the networks appear to be blocked. Is there any way to check if my phone is network branded or band locked? Like I said in an earlier post, I bought this thing unlocked in the U.S.

@mkp

usually the phone will have a network logo or network apps, is it the Z1 or Z1s?

It is a z1. There are no network logos or apps. It was unassociated with any network when I bought it.

That's quite odd, most likely the issue is the SIM card.
