Can you check something for me. I think I know what your problem is.
When you enable the USB tetheting function, you should see a blue tethering symbol at the top left of your phone screen and also the 3G/H symbol which is next to the signal strength bars.
If the 3G/H symbol dissappears when you enable the USB tethering, it means that the version of you phone's firmware has disabled this from running.
Then you have two options :
1. Use a tethering app like PDA Net

2. Perform a manual firmware reflash. Note this an unofficial method and any operator version of your phone's firmware will be lost. Usually a good thing. e.g if they hobble to tethering function.
Refer to this post.

I had a problem where the tethering function was not working. The phone connect to the network but no internet access. Discovered what I told you above.
Did a manual firmware flash, and sure enough the tethering function worked.
Ok well it seems I have somewhat got this sorted.
In response to the last post; yes the 3g symbol remains. I tried downloading the PDA net app, installed it and yet it still did not work.
As a last attempt I thought well its a Google android phone, it says its connected to the internet perhaps it will work with Google chrome browser as apose to IE. I installed google chrome which gave an error message saying (in the chrome browser) go to Option, under the bonnet and change the proxy settings. This is getting to the limit of my technical understanding but after changing some of these settings it now seems to be working. (really really well streaming HD) This is using the PDA net app suggested in the previous post.
Many thanks apc_user
