Has anyone else noticed problems with streaming video since the update?
^ None of these happened on 4.3
And of course, Netflix is still out-of-sync, but that's always been the case. I don't think it'll ever be fixed.
I don't know if it's the apps on KitKat that have the problem or if it's the KitKat update itself.
I did a repair using PC Companion, I think it's fixed it.
Nope, I spoke too soon.
Audio is often out of sync (with or without using bluetooth audio), I need to restart the stream to get it in sync but it eventually slips again.
TVCatchup freezes and crashes often now, as does BBC iPlayer.
Plex seems better but it does crash often.
Youtube seems ok so far.
Am I the only one with this problem? I haven't installed anything new and I didn't have these problems on 4.3.
Will the Bluetooth issues ever get fixed on this device?
I mainly use my tablet for watching media with Bluetooth audio, 4.3 had issues but these got fixed (mostly) then upgrading to KitKat brought new issues, I was patient and waited for the 4.4.4 update thinking that these issues would be fixed but it seems thay haven't been fixed, it's getting so frustrating!
BBC iPlayer:
- Crashes often
- Audio out-of-sync very often, have to restart stream, sometimes a few times until it's synced but it can easily drop out-of-sync again.
(It's worse on live tv streams)
Youtube:
- If Bluetooth is on I get the error "There was a problem while playing, Touch to retry"
--- To get the video to play I have to turn off Bluetooth, press to retry then it works, then turn Bluetooth on again.
I have to do this for nearly every video
- The good news is that the audio syncs well
Plex:
- Like Youtube, video won't start with Bluetooth on. I have to turn off Bluetooth, restart the video then turn Bluetooth back on.
- Regular crashes
- Audio sync problems
TV Catchup:
- Crashes & freezes VERY often, lucky to get 10 mins without freeze or crash
- Audio sync problems
This app doesn't seem to have these problems on othe Jellybean & KitKat devices I've tried it on.
Netflix:
- I stopped my subscription as it was ALWAYS out-of-sync on this device and no one seemed to care and just blamed each other.
As far as I can tell 4OD & Demand 5 apps seem to be ok but I don't use them often.
It seems clear that this device has major Bluetooth issues, I'm very disappointed that Sony of all people create a tablet that's unsuitable for media streaming!
I don't see how this is a hardware issue as it depends on what OS it's using. The last version of 4.3 seemed to fix most of the problems just for them to reappear with 4.4. Do we have to wait months for Lollipop for these to be fixed? Even then, given the history of past updates I don't hold much hope.
If I could choose to roll it back I'd use the last version of 4.3 but there doesn't seem to be an easy way to roll it back, not officially anyway.
The thing that worries me is that I haven't seen many other people with the same issues but I don't think most people use Bluetooth audio as much as I do.
I've tried resets and repairs but the problems are always there, even if I only have a few apps on the device.
Any help appreciated, especially officially ..... and please don't ask me to send it to be fixed, this must be a software issue!
