Hey,
7 Months ago I got my xperia P and I was quite happy with the performance. When the upgrade to ICS came, I started having problems with the camera (wel known flash that stays on) and from time to time my phone froze when I was on a 2G connection. It enoyed me but I thought it was because of my provider. I did have problems picking up calls as the phone froze a lot when I tried unlocking to pick it up. A hard reboot was the only option to fix it.
A week ago I got the JB update and everything lags very badly. If someone calls me, the phone continues to ring another 10s before I can talk to the person. However that's not always the case because normally I can't even pick up the phone because of the screen that freezes. I changed providers and I only get 2g in the buildings where I am constantly. So if I turn the data con on, I cannot use my phone the first 2-3mins. Afther that I can unlock the screen but I can't text because everything I do, makes the phone freeze. And the most enoying thing is that the keyboard lags to the point where it is almost unusable to type a message. If I type a message and another message comes in, the phone freezes. If I send a message, I cannot use the phone for a minute because it freezes if I try doing something.
In the beginning, I could multitask with my xperia P. Now, it's hard even doing things a normal phone does. I can't text without constantly locking/unlocking the screen (to fix the keyboard freeze), I can't pick up a phone call the normal way. I did a factory reset, deleted the files I had put on it, used Sony's software to reïnstall the phone but nothing seems to even solve the problem slightly. I have not rooted my phone nor do I have installed any other rom besides what Sony has provided me via my providers network or via the pc companion software.
My biggest question to you is: I know the problem is software-related so what do you do in your service centers apart from reïnstalling the software like your PC Companion software does? I use the phone as a gps on a almost daily basis so I will not send it over to a service center so I can use my Nokia brick for over a month to get it back with the same issues. I feel like the only problem is your updates because even in the basic configuration of your software (without other apps but facebook integration and synchronisation on) the phone keeps on freezing.
So what does a service center do apart from reïnstalling the same (not stable) software?
Best Regards,
Platteau Reinhout
My friend, you are quite right here with some of your statements. The service center many times just reinstalls the software without having a look at the hardware of the phone. They should do that, especially if you tell them your problem.I hope something changes in the way they interact with people, they should care a little more.
Thank you Alexdon! I think there's a reason why it takes this long for me to get a reponse from Sony's people. In my opinion they should release an update if they're working. I don't care if it takes a year to get the update. I just want my brick to be worth the name smartphone because right now, I'd prefer a 20€ Nokia. At least I can call with it and send text messages. This phone was 300€ when I bought it and it can't compete with a normal phone? I thought Sony products were known for their outstanding quality and durability so I'm really dissapointed.
Do you know a simple custom rom that simply works without lagging? I just want to call, text, surf and use my gps without it failing on me. I don't care about effects on my camera or face-unlock fancy-like programs.
Yes,I also paid a bit for my phone, but until now,it worked ok(looking at others and how they complain).I am not informed and I have less knowledge in rooting, but i am sure uliwooly can help you.You should also try searching xda forum for some custom roms.
We have received some reports of the dialer being slow after the latest update in other threads and this has been escalated. A few users have reported that it may have to do with 3:rd party VoIP apps like Skype and Viber so if you have any such app, try removing it and restart the phone.
The dialer is the least of the problems I'm having with the phone, Rickard. It's not your fault, but my phone is like a brick when I use my data connection. I can't even do one simple task normal phones do (e.g. call/text without continuous lag). I don't have any third party apps. I'm thinking maybe it's bacause of new apps Sony added with the update or maybe it's that battery saving tool idk but you tried fixing something that wasn't broken.. I've cleared the SD-card, factory resetted the phone and did a reïnstall both with SUS and PCC. The lag is a little bit better now but it's still unsatisfying. Even if it worked with a factory standard installation, what's the use of the built in SD-card or the versatility of android if I can't even use it? I know you can't help it but there will be no more Sony when I buy a new phone. I've had Samsung and Nokia before and they didn't have the latest gadgets but at least I could call and text. I didn't have a fast mobile internet provider back then, but even the 2g connection never failed on me or didn't cause the phone to crash.
It seems the only option I have left is trying to install a new ROM from 3rd party websites. I hope they know what the're doing with their software.
