Hi I been curios on text to speech on my x10 mini? What does it do and how do I use it?

When I try taping install software it is greyed out. Whats wrong here?

I have android 2.1

Text to speech lets you say something to the phone and it will automatically search what you have said.

ok, can it be used to talk and then the phone converts it to text for a sms for example?

and why is the install software greyed out?

This function seems to be location dependent which is possibly why it is greyed out in your phone. I have to say tho it is a bit random in its translation of what you say so although I have it, apart from playing with it to make me and my friends laugh I haven't used it.

ok I have installed handcent sms and also installed text to speech.

read somwhere that there was a folder osynx or soemething that needed to be deleted, so I made a copy of of it first and renamed the copy, then deleted the original folder.

Then I could install the software, but im guessing now that I had it allready just had not tried it in handcent

well doesnt matter

Anyway it sounds funny when it reads my swedish sms,s in english lol

but with what can I get it to type what i say? or how?

I think as far as speech to text, you need a keyboard that this is enabled on. The stock keyboard on my X8 doesn't have this so I am guessing that your mini doesn't either. I have the HTC_IME keyboard installed as well as Smart Keyboard Pro (which is a paid app from the market) and both have the little microphone button. It's fun but I can type faster than it can load up, listen and convert.
