Wi-Fi authentication issues since update to android 5.0.2

Hello, i upgraded my xperia z1 compact from android 4.4.4. to android 5.0.2 on thursday. The update process succeeded without any problems or any error messages. It kept all my app data and at first everything worked fine. Wi-Fi connection at home was established instantly and worked fine with the authentication data from android 4.4.4. On friday i went to work and tried to connect to the university network eduroam with the same (saved) properties i already used with android 4.4.4.. A connection could not be established. Error message just said "Authenticationproblem". Username and PW, also the certificates needed to establish this connection where present and worked with android 4.4.4. So i did a factory reset. Wi-Fi data was still kept (is that normal) and immediatly after the phone booted up a Wi-Fi connection to the eduroam network was established and also worked properly. I set up my phone with all the apps i use. Still the Wi-Fi connection worked. I went home and the phone connected to my home Wi-Fi perfectly and the connection was stable. I did not perform any changes in the phones software options in the evening. Today i went out and tried to connect to a protected Wi-Fi in a cafe. The connection could not be established even though my gf was able of connecting to it with the same authentication data. Error message again read "Authenticationproblem". Deleting and reentering the Wi-Fi data didnt help. Again, everything i did was deleting the cafe Wi-Fi and re-entering the Wi-Fi data of this single cafe Wi-Fi, i did nothing to the Wi-Fi options of my home Wi-Fi or any other saved Wi-Fi. The problem was not solved by reentering the authentication data. Well ok.. Now, i came home from the cafe and the phone is not able to connect to my home Wi-Fi anymore and again the error message reads "Authenticationproblem" even though i did not change anything on my home Wi-Fi. My gf is still able to connect to the homes Wi-Fi, again we didnt change anything with the Wi-Fi properties. So is anyone having the same issues or knows how to solve them? Without being able to connect to a Wi-Fi my phone is kind of useless to me.. Br, dk85

I do not know the solution to your problem, but the same happened to me when I flashed my Z1 compact with customized FR 5.0.2 (usually I use customized CE3).

There was no problem with eduroam and Android 4.4.4.

With 5.0.2 I didn't managed to connect to eduroam for the whole 2 hours (or more) and I was trying every few minutes. Finally I walked around the building I work in and one router (one in few dozens we have) finally authorized me and I was connected to eduroam. I don't know what happened. At home 5.0.2 connected to my home router instantly.

I decided to revert to 4.4.4. When I tried to connect to eduroam again with that old version of firmware I succeeded to do so in the first attempt. Go figure.

Hi dk85

Welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

Something likely to resolve this issue is a process called a software repair - it will reflash the operating system of your handset.

First install PC Companion for a PC, or Bridge for Mac for mac users. Once installed, open the program.

Running a software repair will delete user data

To back up your phone using PC Companion
1. Go to Support  to install PC Companion on a Windows computer.
2. When installed, start PC Companion on the computer.
3. Connect your phone to the computer using a USB cable.
4. Click Start under Backup & Restore.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions.

On Bridge For Mac there is a Backup & Restore option there also that you can use.

Running the software repair

(Please ensure your phone is powered off and not connected to the PC during this process. You are not required to connect the phone until after step 10).

1. Install and open PC Companion then select Support Zone.

2. Phone Software Update.

3. Start.

4. Repair Phone

5. Continue

6. Accept data removal

7. Next

8. Wait for prepare

9. Select Phone

10. Follow the connection steps

Let us know how this goes.

I am also having severe wifi problems since the Lollipop 5.02 update. Some wifi routers I struggle to connect with first time, which was never a problem before.

However, when staying at my girlfriends, who lives out in the country side (no Internet above GPRS via mobile network), I simply *CANNOT* connect to her wifi. The phone sees it but doesn't even attempt to connect. Worse still, it does not give me any error messages. It just doesn't connect. I've tried via the login code and via WPS button. Nothing works at all. The wifi seems totally screwed. What gives???

I managed to solve the problems i've been having. Here a short explanation: In android 4.4.4. i used to disable certain apps, that were preinstalled by sony so i wouldnt be bugged with their updates all the time. For example i dont play games on my phone so i disabled the google play games app. I dont read books on my phone so i disabled the google books app and so on (there were some more preinstalled apps i disabled). In android 4.4.4. this didnt have any effect on the funcionality of my phone. In android 5.0.2. this is different. After the update to 5.0.2. again i disabled certain apps i dont use and the issues began. So i enabled all apps that were preinstalled by sony and keep them updated and now i'm not having any issues with the Wi-Fi connection or any other functionality of my phone. Sorry for the troubles since it has been my own fault that the phone didnt work properly. Best regard, dk85

This is not a solution to the problem. This is torture!

I re-installed 4.4.4 on my z1 compact and then upgraded it manually to another 5.0.2. firmware. This time it is Vipnet HR (Croatia). Today I tried to use wifi at the university and everything went well. I still don't know what went wrong the other time when I was trying to connect to wifi for 2 hours or more.

It remains to be seen whether I will have some problems with wifi with this firmware.

It is very time consuming to try out all these firmware versions. It is not my job to test firmware.

I have a problem were after a few days, I start getting authentication errors reported, and the phone stops connecting to the wifi at home. I have to restart it then enter the password again and it connects. The phine is three years old, and this never happend prior to the update. As well has there not have been any changes to my wfi. It looks like a bug to me.
