Wifi problem after ICS update

Hi,

I have this problem, that when I connect to the internet with my Xperia P throu wifi it will connect but after a minute it will not load pages anymore.

Everything works fine when connecting to the internet with DATA TRAFFIC.....what should i do?

Please help - everything was fine before with Gingerbread.

I updated to ICS yesterday on the 24th/aug.12.

Would it help if i repair the firmware? - and when repairing will all my previously installed Apps be deleted?

I'm from Estonia!

Best regards,

Thank you....
Mario

Yep - you are correct - it happens with no encryption as well. I and others on this thread have been trying to find the common denominator but so far don't have the smoking gun. We can all agree however that it is not a router/access point problem and that the issue lies with the phone.

Due to the random nature of the issue it may be a bit challenging for Sony to replicate it in their labs. To help them out (and ourselves :smileyhappy:) I would encourage you if you have the capability to send them a wireless capture as well as a logcat log from the phone itself.

The wireless capture has some prerequisites in terms of hardware/software/knowledge but the logcat trace doesn't have such a steep learning curve and requirements. All you need to produce a log is to download the Android SDK, put the phone in usb debug mode and run the ddms.bat file which is usually in the program files\android\android-sdk\tools folder. DavlikDebug Monitor will open and under device select Run logcat. After the capture email the file to your favorite Sony support moderator with a polite request for them to look into the issue :smileyhappy:. A link to this thread won't hurt either :smileyhappy:.

ok buddy, will try to capture some interesting traffic by wireless capture as well as logcat.

just curious, in wireless capture, what are the relevent field which needs to be filtered in capture, as the complete capture will contain too much junk values as well.

That's a good question. In Wireshark try the following filter

(wlan.addr == mac of phone) || (wlan.addr == mac of AP/router/BSSID) || (wlan.ra == mac of phone) || (wlan.ra == mac of AP/router/BSSID)

That was recommended by the Sony wifi engineers.

ahhh, i have never used (and don't like to use) wireshark to capture wifi packets Slightly_frowning_Face

I guess i have to now, and will provide an output as soon as i get it.

Regarding your post about the new update (6.1.B.0.559) addressing wifi issues, are we not confident that SONY have fixed the wi-fi issues?

This update should be released soon, according to another thread on here.

I am not sure. The post on the other forum does state that it has wifi improvements and Sony just fixed some wifi issues with their tablet (which were  not necessarily the same) so I remeain hopeful.

On the other hand however the moderator assisting with the issue told me that the Sony engineers are looking into that issue at the moment (as of a few days ago) but by that point the new firmware was already posted as certified...

Wireshark is what I used but if you have access to tools such as Omnipeek or Airmagnet I am sure they can make the wireless capture easier. I guess as long as you save the output in a format that Wireshark can open (not sure what tools Sony engineers have access to) I don't think they'll mind...

The information I was able to find about what that firmware brings to the table is in this post.

Not sure where they have sourced this information, how reliable it is and if something was lost in the google translation but it does mention specifically some wifi bugfixes...

Though this might sound stupid, but I have the wifi capture and logcat log, and i don't know what to do with it, whom to mail it, and how to link it over here.:smileyconfused:

You can use any free file upload service and then send the link(s) to a Sony Support rep. On the right you see the "Top participants" column and at the bottom select "View all participants". The results should be ordered by "status" and usually in the top 20 there are a few Sony support moderators.

Send them the link to the uploaded file(s) with a description (and maybe a link to this thread) and a request to forward the captures to the wifi gurus.
