Based on what you wrote, it does sound like your phone is out of warranty. If something is physically broken (internally or externally) then the device is no longer covered.\
Where are you located? Did you go to a Sony Ericsson Authorized center? Did they offer you an alternative (payment for repair, exchange)?
When you called our local office, you say they said they were not sure about covering it. Did they give you more steps to take, like mailing the phone in, having it looked at by someone else?
