Hi,
I have successfully upgrated my XPeria Go to Jelly Bean and I'm facing a big problem with phone calls :
After dialling and pressing "call", the phone is completely frozen ! It remains frozen from several seconds to about 1 minute !! During this time I have no information about the call setup progress. The call can be established, and the celled party can talk "alone" : I'm not able to know when the call is established and to hear him speaking !!! Then, my phone is no more usable !!!!
I don't know if anyone has already experienced this problem ...
Best regards.
Sorry to be crude, net, but that's bullpoo (xcuse the French). It's more like a linux system, it can run for months without a single reboot (in theory) but of course, due to every day use it's best to reboot once a week. Read this Lifehacker article to learn more about Android's memory management. Please stop thinking in Windows terms, this is built on a completely different architecture.
The phone hardware is more than sufficient, there is nothing 'not that powerful' about it. Again, that's comparing apples to albino giraffes. You are right that this is a mid-range device and we shouldn't expect it to hack Pentagon's mainframe in 60 seconds but should a simple phonecall be such a hassle? Even if your phone hasn't been rebooted for a week or two... I beg to differ. Heck, some seriously resource-intensive 3D games (try Shine Runner, it's awesome) work better on this device!
And the software version is an even greater pile of poo. The phone was designed undoubtably with Ice Cream Sandwich in mind. The XGO was released in July 2012 (according to gsmarena) and the first ICS version was available October 2011 (Wikipedia). Are you telling me that they couldn't have forseen the hardware for an update, NINE (9!) MONTHS after ICS was released? You can make a baby in that time O_O Google was on the fourth version of ICS when this phone hit the stores. Designed for GB my bottom.
The lags I have seen on this phone are in no way similar to any other device I have held in my hands. That's why it's peeing me/us off so much, it's the unseen neglegence of the issue. How can you bring out two updates after a known issue is found but still not fix it? I have never seen this before. The user (customer) cannot be blamed for this, we are not the weakest link in this matter.
Well said sir! Very well said.
I have a feeling at least part of it is due to the use of an ICS kernel, presumably with backported patches (hence the + in 3.0.8+). For comparison, the JB kernel has a version number of 3.4.x, and that difference from 0 → 4 indicates the introduction of fairly significant changes that broke a certain level of backward compatibility (but not completely, or the digit 3 would have been incremented instead). Given that, isn't it odd how we're using an essentially patched ICS kernel when everything else is JB?
Another oddity is how disabling one core actually improves the overall responsiveness of the UI - the more doubtful of this you are, the more you should try it, you'll be surprised at the boost. I believe it's at least in part due to the CPU governor refusing to raise the clock speed when it detects the presence of both cores, because I noticed the clock speed ramping up and down more aggressively with the second core disabled.
JB was ported using ICS kernal 3.0.8+ :smileyshocked::smileyshocked:

One think i notic, that problem start only after the Viber get installed.
I had skype and whatapp working fine.. but when I install Viber all problem start.
I hope any sony support person should view this thread and report this issue to software development team.. I had visited the Xperai P forum too, Some of Xperia P are also suffering with this problem..
True, but do You have installed alot of apps that are eating resources? I'm trying out stock whit no apps instaled almost and in latest version I dont have call delay bug as You describet. It was massively in ICS and sometimes in earlier JB, but not in latest version. Note that I am restarting phone once per day. PS that I noticed a little delay on earlier JB only after a few days and whit intalled hog apps like foursquare, dropbox etc.
Timmmmaaahh I have seen simmilar lags thats why I am saying this and Yes android is linux and different beast. Android is even different from normal linux ir memory management. Google designet it that way. I had Samsungs Europe - a 600Mhz cpu powered smartphone. It had simmilar issuees when I installed social apps I use on android 2.2. I didn't intall foursquare, because after that phone usage was a hue nightmare. Even Facebook caused trouble.
He Shine Runner looks nice. Will try. I was playing psx games, Diablo on our device. Gpu is good.
Phone was released whit GB and thats why Sony is quiet. You dont have to upgrade, but it is recommended. I'm not defending Sony because work on software could be better, for example new home lauchers UI is spilling apps names, that is hard not to notice. I'm trying to understand how that big company as Sony is working an beleave Me, Samsung on middle class phones are even worst.
taboo5200 take a simmilar fhone like Galaxy Ace 2 and Samsung is using the same 3.0.x kernel so that souldnt be an issue. Phone is a bit slower and have call delay too.
All I can recomend to do is monitor apps and cpu usage. And strip down list because nowddays apps need more and more power. 1Ghz dual-core is not that much, but phone is worth its price. And not all 1Ghz dual-core chips are working the same in performance. One more thing - far as i know Stamina mode is using different governor that is more power efficent, so it might cause lag on our phones and I have noticed it. I am using Stamina mode only when nessasery, that why You can adjust stamina's mod activation on specific battery level.
The XperiaGo is not a budget class phone @netmaniack, we should expect more. I also agree with whoever said that we cant restart our phones everytime we are expecting an important call.
I just got a all from the store, my phone is available for pickup after its second repair. I'll let you know if anything has improved when I pick it up.
[sarc] Hey, that's the solution! Let's stop using our smartphones as smartphones... how... smart! [/sarc] *sigh*
I currently have 120 apps installed (just did a head count in the app drawer). I've started using Battery Doctor since yesterday because people recommended it on here, according to that program I have 3 power hogs: Calendar, AppUsage & SwiftKey. Additionally, 6 more apps are running in the background: Atom Launcher, WhatsApp, Swapps, Simple Calendar Widget, Top contacts & Android Framework (security). I think you can conclude that I'm a power user that really stresses the device. HOWEVER, I do not currently have any call lag issues, with either STAMINA or Power Doc. The minute I install Viber, everything changes. Then the device is simply worthless in terms of basic use. Uninstall it and the phone turns smooth again.
I do not need daily reboots to keep my XGO working, I hardly reboot once a week even. As long as I keep Viber away, it's all running pretty dang good.
Saying "you don't have to upgrade" isn't a valid arguement. All manufacturers push consumers to keep their products on the latest software/firmware. It's one of the first lines you get when calling a helpdesk: "have you upgraded to the latest software?".
What if and i mean... What freakin' if..... The problem is not with the phone but with the app itself? Just putting it out there, I never used viber, has very little lag issues or none and now it's rooted and power to the people! 2x 1GHz power ON! ;D
I too agree with Timmmmaaah,
Movement you install viber in XGO, JB is wortless phone lagging start.
I do have skype and whatapp.
A Viber a day keeps the phone calls away. :<</p>
