Xperia Z starts warning about open ports when taken out of docking

From this morning, whenever I take my Z out of the charger docking station, if warns me that I need to close the ports to ensure water protection. Thinking_Face OK this is in Norwegian so I don't know the words it would use in English. This started suddenly and happens *only* when I take it out of the charger, also when it's gone to standby. Even if I turn it off, open one of the ports and then turn it on, it does not complain. I have checked and everything seems to be fine.

Earlier this morning I downloaded updates to 7 apps and the Smart Connect may have been one of them, could this have a bug? Or maybe a new feature, and my phone really does have a problem? Well the ports are definitely closed so the warning is wrong.

Last evening I also finally put on the plastic protecive sheets that came with the phone, plundered a bit with the front one but I can't see how this could be related?

The Xperia Z doesn't have sensors to check if the ports are open or closed. Instead, it always displays this warning message after you disconnect the USB cable or the headset. Oddly enough, this warning message also shows up when you take the phone from the charging dock.

Maybe this can be fixed with a software update. It's also possible that the software cannot see the difference between power through the Micro-USB connection and power through the charging dock pins, in which case the issue is unfixable.

But but.... It never came with this warning until this morning! I've had it for a week and I've taken it out of the charging dock many times. And until just now I had never even opened the USB port.

So you mean it's safe to click "Don't warn me again"? I was afraid of doing that as I wouldn't know how to turn the warning back on.

Maybe it started happening after I tested the headset for the first time yesterday. Until then I hadn't ever opened any port while it was on (only opened the SIM card port when it was off).

That might be the reason. I can't think of any other explanation. I believe my Xperia Z displayed this warning from the beginning. If you click "Don't warn me again", it also won't show the warning anymore when disconnecting the USB cable or headset I think.

I would say maybe because the phone reconizes that its charging because it warns you when charging through the usb. I don't think it has to do with the dock its just warning you because the phone doesn't know if you are charging with the dock or usb i think. Maybe a failsafe?

I just realized that the software actually can see the difference between charging with Micro-USB and charging with the Charging Dock DK26, because when using the dock:

  • By default, the ‘SensMe slideshow’ starts
  • The homescreen rotates to landscape mode

This does not happen when charging with Micro-USB.

Also, in the Smart Connect app, you can set different events for ‘Charging dock’ and ‘Charger’ (such as the ‘SensMe slideshow’ for ‘Charging dock’).

Conclusion: the issue is fixable and the phone should not display the warning when taking it out of the dock.

You're right, it does notice and it's not just by being held sideways. Anyway, I've turned off that warning now.
