Best way to update XZ from 6.0 to 7.1.1

So I decided to finally update my Xperia XZ to Nougat 7.1.1. My phone is currently running 6.0 (39.0.A.3.30) and it seems that the phone would go through 6 updates to reach 7.1.1 (41.2.A.2.199). Would it be okay for my phone to go through 6 updates in one day? What would be the best way to do this?

Hi @diego87,

You have 2 options when updating your device

The first one is the one that you mentioned in your post, do one update at the time directly in your device (OTA=Over The Air).

The second option is to update the device with the help of a computer and the program Xperia Companion. install the latest available software at once, so you don't have to download and install all updates with reboots in between them.

Those are the 2 different choices that you have when you want to update your phone, whichever one you choose it up to you! Slightly_smiling_Face

I hope that helps and good luck with updating your phone!

Hi @Jonas,

I wanted to go with the second option you suggested to avoid doing several updates and Xperia Companion says the current update for my phone is 39.2.A.0.327 and not 41.2.A.2.199. Does this mean I still have to do several updates to reach 41.2.A.2.199 while using Xperia Companion? Will this damage my battery as phones tend to get hot after an update?

7.1.1 is a great update on the other hand Slightly_smiling_Face

Hi again @diego87!

I'm very sorry for my previous reply regarding that you can do all updates at once. That is true when performing a software repair, then you will by default get the latest available software installed in your device.

You will need to do one update at the time when using a computer as well, however if you don't have a Wi-Fi network available I would advise doing it with the help of a computer and the Xperia Companion program since the updates can be quite big in size and if you have a limited data plan on your subscription it may run out of mobile data.

Your battery will not be damaged from updating your phone, you don't have to worry about that! Slightly_smiling_Face

Once again, very sorry for the misinformation in my previous post!

So it sounds like doing a software repair is the way to go?

Hi @Sunking101,

If you perform a software repair all data stored on the internal storage of your phone will be deleted, so you have to create a backup using Xperia Companion on the data that you have in your phone and then restore it after the software repair has been completed.

If you are using bank applications and such that needs to be set up again and you have to contact your bank and so forth, this will be very time consuming and its easier to just do the updates one by one with restart in between them.

The positive part is that you will have a freshly new installed Android OS in your phone after the software repair has been completed.

I hope that explains how it works, and sorry for the misinformation earlier!

Hello,

I have a XZ Dual SIM.

After reading the very negative comments about the previous OS upgrades I kept the factory OS.

Now that the 7.1. seems more stable and improves the camera quality I decided to upgrade.

After several successive updates (5 or 6) the phone says it reached the latest update at the 39.2.A.0.417 version while I was expecting it to reach 42....

Any explanation?

Thanks

Ok thanks.

If I understand correctly, OS update dates are different for each XZ version.

My version seems to be the HK, any idea when the last OS will be also available?
