@Thecreed

it'll be wise, if not a glass, a film protector.

if I'm not mistaken, the front and the back panels are made from the same type of glass (Gorilla Glass 5), so the back is as prone to scratches or shattering (or as scratch- and shatter-proof, if you prefer) as the front.

Hi @Thecreed, welcome to our forum!

As @najodleglejszy wrote, both the front and the back panels on the Xperia XZ Premium are made of Gorilla Glass 5.

If you want to use a tempered glass protector or a screen protector in general for both the front and back is up to you. Some people prefer to have it on the front and back, and some prefer to not have one at all, its all up to personal preference! Slightly_smiling_Face

I hope that helps!

Within one day I had a minor scratch on the back, just from putting it on my desk. A small grain of sand could even scratch your phone. No matter if it's Gorrilla Glass 5 or not.

I put screen protectors on both the front and the back on my phone. Too bad there's no proper glass ones available for the back. The one I'm currently using for the back is the Brotect Airglass protector. Doesn't cover the curved edges, and it's a little weaker than 'real' glass but does the job just fine of protecting it.

As for the front, there's only two options available:

1. Put a glass screen protector which is not curved.

2. Put a curved glass screen protector. Sadly the transparant ones do not have glue on the top and bottom parts, which gets in dust over time. The colloured screen protectors are better, but can cause some touch issues. If you have a Chome XZP, you're out of luck. That collour does not exist with a colloured screen protector. Closest you'll get is silver.

For this reason I also use a screen protector which is not curved for the front.

Bottomline, def recommended.

Gorilla Glass 5 scratches easily (especially the back as it seems the glass is thinner). I strongly recommend to use tempered glasses whenever possible, or a case / other protection.

I would recommend a case to protect the back and phone itself - having glass in the back and front makes it much more likely something goes wrong when the phone drops.

I'm using a tpu full body protector on my chrome, feels very smooth and much like the feel of glass.

Hello everyone and thanks a lot for your great feedback and what kind of cases / screen protectors all of you are using on your XZ Premium devices! Slightly_smiling_Face

I hope @Thecreed will find this information helpful when making a decision on what to purchase!

Yes, definitely.

My XZP fell from second floor window onto concrete on Saturday, landed on the back with a protective film and while it smashed, the screen is unmarked (all impact absorbed on rear) and the film kept the smashed rear glass together.

NFC still works and replacement rear glass ordered.
