How to delete autocomplete email addresses on XZ?

This was easy on my iPhone but I'm stumped. In any email client app, there is a list of previously used email addresses which come up as suggestions when I start typing in the address box. I wish to delete some of these, ie edit the list but cannot find a way. They are not stored in my contacts or Google contacts, they are stored somewhere on my Xperia XZ. Has anyone any idea where they might be?

Can one of the mods ask Sony about this please?

Check the permissions from the Apps menu. If you turn off the contacts on any email app, you will not get any suggestion, but I dont think there is a list about it. On the other you can clear search history on the gmail app under general settings, you can do the same clear history on the preinstalla email app. I hope it helps.

Contacts are turned off in the email app and still it happens. I have even deleted my contacts and still it happens. I am baffled.

Try to clear the cache of the app

Already done. I have cleared the cache of every app, deleted ALL contacts on the phone(using the filter system to make sure I got them all) and I have tried different email clients. Each time these email addresses crop up so they must be stored somewhere in the phone's memory. On an iPhone you can delete one by one easily directly from the email app but on the XZ it seems impossible. I shouldn't have to erase my phone just to get rid of these pesky email addresses. Some are typed wrong so I have to make sure that I select the right one. I just want to be free of it.

Yes I know "remove from recents" .

Ok try this but make sure you backup your contacts first .

Settings>Apps>3 dots(right up) > show system >  contacts storage > storage > clear data.

I had the same problem but just worked out that in the email app under settings (if you don't go further into settings of each of your email accounts but stay on the first page of settings) there are two options called 'Clear email history' and 'Clear search history'. Wipe those and your email app is as good as new. Means it has to re-learn the email addresses as you type them but that's still better than having loads of wrong ones in there! Hope this helps.

Took me a while, but I figured this out.

My email app on my xz1compact kept suggesting a misspelled email, and it was doing it above the correct ones.  Very frustrating.

Tried all the cache clearing, history clearning etc. suggested here and elsewhere online, with no luck.

So I went to contacts, and searched for the incorrect email address, and lo, it was there.  Turns out, the phone appears to make a contact for every email you type, if it's not already a contact.   I deleted it, and it's no longer a suggestion.    Simply put, the phone is storing these not in a history or cache location, but right under our noses in the Contacts!
