I can't ask Google from home screen as the icon has disappeared

Do you mean the Google search bar which has the microphone? If so the widget has probably been deleted.

To get it back just hold down on the home screen until a menu pops up, select Widgets then choose the Google widget (the thumbnail shows the search bar). If it doesn't load on screen you may need to do a quick device restart (software bug that can sometimes stop widgets from loading) and then try again.

I think you mean the Google Voice Search icon. I don't have it either but I did have it on my Xperia X Compact with Android 7. I opened a topic about this here: Google Voice Icon is missing from my device

If you want a Google Voice widget, as far as I know, you can only use the Google search bar widget which has a smaller microphone icon on it. You do need to have the "Google App" installed and enabled though for it to show up in the widgets menu.
