Hello, I am a loyal Sony user, the purchase of mobile phones, including XZ premium, I really like this phone, the appearance of good performance. But today I heard Sony released three new machines Xperia XA2, XA2 Ultra and L2 at 2018 CES show, all using rear fingerprints, which made me very sad. I love Sony has always been to unlock the side of the fingerprint, which is not only Sony's maverick, dominate the temperament, but also my faith in them. If the next Sony's flagship machine all turned back rear fingerprints, then I am really sad. Urge Sony's mobile design department staff can listen to representatives of the majority of powder voices, do not cancel the side fingerprints! Look forward to your company's reply, thank you!
I think I may be part of the majority??? I find the fingerprint reader in the power button to be less than perfect. When using a case you have to get it just right, or it doesn't work because of the indentation. If the slightest moisture is on your finger, or on the button itself, it doesn't work. Another thing I don't like is that you have to press the power button to activate the scanner. This will just wear out the button that much faster. I have, as a backup phone, a ZTE Axon 7 with a rear placed fingerprint reader and it is 99% accurate all the time! The power button never has to be pushed. Now if they could keep the scanner activated all the time so the power button doesn't have to be pushed first, then that would be great! If not, then I would prefer it be moved to the back where it will hopefully work much better than it does now. My $0.02
Not to change the subject...but....I am not impressed by any of the "new" phones Sony announced at CES. They just seem like recycled phones from last year with a different SOC...and of course the newly located fingerprint scanner. I sure hope they WOW us with something resembling one of those lovely renders I have seen of the new Premium...or whatever they decide to call it!
Bezels and side positioned fingerprint scanners go together well.
Reducing the bezel is reducing space for fingerprint scanner.
So....
I agree with you.
Sony please don't change the fingerprint from side to back in flagships phones. because its very easy to use in side.
THX for your consideration !
TBH, agree with this side fingerprint... it's like the uniqueness of xperia since many years ago.. it's cool because it's not like a fingerprint (you know what i mean). i think beside thinking about the design, sony should upgrade more in the performance, especially for longterm use, just hate the issue on my xz, it's now 13 months old but already feel like junk, overheat, battery issue, performance issue (i can't even play pubg,ml,etc. with this phone,) use to love this phone that much, but now feel like betrayed. if sony could fix this issue and make a great phone again, i'd purchased my 3rd sony's smartphone. sorry OOT
I love Sony's side fingerprint sensor too.
Very sad new Xperias comes with back fps that not only are placed too low but also scratches easily.
Hence I avoided newer Xperia devices.
Will purchase new device when it again will come with side fps or they will incorporate it with screen.
Vote to KEEP side fingerprint, it works flawlessly.
You don't have to 'press' the power button - just touch it. 😉
