I've had my Xperia XZ3 for one week and yesterday I got the message "fingerprint hardware not available" when I attempted to unlock my phone. After entering my pin, I locked my phone again and tried to use the fingerprint reader and got the same message "fingerprint hardware not available". I reset my phone and I stopped getting the message and the fingerprint reader stopped working entirely. I no longer have fingerprint manager in my settings menu.
I have completed a restart, I have restarted my phone in safe mode, I have done a hard reset, and I have done and Xperia Companion Software Repair. None of these options has returned my fingerprint reader functionality. In Safe Mode I ran a diagnostic test and there was no option to test the fingerprint sensor, but all other functions on the phone were normal.
This is frustrating as a customer because I have not received an appropriate answer to explain this change to the fingerprint sensor.
What other options should I consider? Can fingerprint sensor function be restored to my phone?
Thank you for your consideration.
Since you already tried the firmware repair in PC Companion it seems to me that your device has encountered a hardware failure.
There's nothing more you can do, I'm afraid.
Get in touch with your dealer for a replacement or your local Sony support for warranty repair.
I have the same problem, and to make matters worse, when I try to get my Xz3 into repair, a Support notification tells me my model is not supported, in support, and instead visit a Sony Centre or call.
Terrible, that they can release a high end phone and not support it adequately. 🇬🇧
