It all started normally, the phone connected to the wifi just fine. Then as time passed, just a few weeks, the phone started to have big trouble connect to the wifi although the signal is excellent, it gets unconnected back and forth and the connection is very slow compare to other phones. Any know how to fix it? Thanks
I've never had this problem. I'm on global firmware and have services like WiFi scanning etcetera all disabled.
Had the same problem, new xperia compact, connected to my wifi and directly the router went down. Put my old it-support hat on and started to troubleshoot. After 2 days with 100 diff settings, incl reinstall router I think I find the problem, classic DNS-problem. Seems like the Xperia has its own DNS or somethink like it. Anyway the quickfix that works for me, few hours without any wifi trouble so far, is:
First!"be carefull before changes settings for your router/phone, can make things worse if dont have some experience/skills for it"
- Set the phones private dns to off, if you have one, cant say thats the singel solution but part of it.
- Set a static IP for your phone, in the routers dhcp settings.
- Set static IP(same IP as above) and also static DNS,Gateway(like 192.168.1.1) in your phones WiFi setting. The static DNS is the key I think.
I hope it can help, it works for me. And be carefull before changes settings for your router/phone, can make things worse if dont have some experience/skills for it.
I will try to check how it will work after the implementation of the first council. the second and third, I think, is useless for me since the problem occurs on different routers of different areas in the city (I did not check it later)
Another desperate XZ1c user here with my story.
Unlike you guys, I've had the isse only since Pie. But then again, I've had this phone for only 6 months now. I love it, but this is an extremely annoying bug (I'm assuming it's a sw issue).
Phone's up to date and hasn't been tempered with, not even the dev options have been touched. It keeps disconnecting from wifi, reconnecting to it, disabling it, connecting again and so on, until it simply gives up and no wifi network is shown. Restarting the phone fixes the issue, but it represents itself inevitabily after a day or even less. Toggling the wifi or airplane mode almost certainly triggers the issue.
I'm sorry I can't add anything new to the thread at the moment, except my voice.
I'll share if I find anything useful.
EDIT 1
@Phnils #92
Since the day I got the phone (hence without the wifi issue) I've had a static IP, binded properly to its MAC address, and my router's DHCP has been assigning it correctly. These are things I work with and I'm pretty sure we can rule out a networking problem. I don't know why it worked for you, but I know I keep having the issue with both static and dynamic IPs.
did not help. again the problem with the connection. of all the huge in the list of available networks, only 2 out of 20 are displayed. And again a vicious circle: my network — connection — authentication — receipt of an IP — connected without the Internet — connected — saved. The most interesting Internet is, but its speed tends to zero.
I worked a little and stopped again. enough minutes for 30-45. I rested for 10 minutes and started working again, but still not as after a reboot.
Hello,
I had the same issue with my Xperia X compact,
Some data, using same router same distance, 2.4G WiFi.
I use wifi analyser and speed test apps.
Xperia :
Signal : -68dbm
Download speed: 0.2Mbs, or even vorst. !!!!
Other device :
Signal : -71dbm
Download speed : 20Mbps or higher !!!!!
So the other device with lower signal perform much much better.
Basically the wifi WiFi is totally unusable, tried on different wifi networks, is the same.
If I am close to the router, and signal is about -35dbm the speed is Ok, more than 25Mbps.
This issue was not present when bought the phone last year, I think was raised about 2...3 month ago.
Any suggestions what to do?
The patch came, the problem remained but changed. now the connection to the access point is not always disconnected. If the connection remains, then the network speed drops from 144mb / s to 2. The pages open, but with a long wait for time. The reboot is all good (for now).
So there's no solution; It doesn't appear to really be device specific, but figured I'd start here instead of an android forum... But...
Probably setting a static IP would help. This is NOT what I want to do; and that is NOT a solution.
The wifi connection seems to renegiation quite often....

After reading some of the posts I think that the only solution is to trash the Sony and buy something else. Sony used to make a premium product. What happened? Is all the R&D going into larger electronics like TV's
I charged few older devices; none of them are also disconnecting.
I thought it might be something like the auto scnning for wifi networks that causes it... but it doesn't have a correlation.
I was testing a webapp, this is chrome connected to the device through wifi, the browser is running on the phone, the disconnects happen quite regularly nd frequently.
They are abnormal closures with 1006 and no reason text (network disconnect).
