I already had the Smart Connect app disabled and I am still getting this problem.
Sony Rep Jake suggested enabling Smart Connect but clearing App Data when it happens next...
I had the same problem when I bought my Z1C and plugged in its earphones. They were not "seen" by the device and the sound was played by the speaker. I tried everything and was really frustrated, until I searched google and found the solution in a forum. I pressed the button of the earphones (the one for answering incoming calls and starting walkman) and walkman started playing through the earphones! Since then I didn't have the problem.

I upgraded to Lollipop yesterday and the problem still persists.
Turning Smart Connect on and off seems to fix the problem but it is happening more frequently than before.
Normally I would not encounter this issue in the first 24hrs after a phone reboot - but yesterday it even happened in the first hour after a reboot!
Hi.. that's my longtime problem (almost for six months). I have just realized this forum and that others have this problem too. My phone (z1 c.) and my earphones (not the supplied one but another) doesn't match most of time.
My earphones work on any device and any earphone work on my phone. But my phone and earphones doesn't match although both are original sony product. On the other hand, the problem appeared just one day, not from the very beginning.
Rarely they match and those times I try to fix the cable and not to move it anyway. Only then the sound comes but a slight movement of the cable of the earphones make the trouble again.
I am really tired of it.
