Hello,
I have a problem with the messaging app that's been bugging me for a few days. It keeps telling me I have one unread message, no matter what I do. I tried restarting the phone, clearing data & cache of the messaging app, forcibly stopping the app, disabling & reenabling the app. I even deleting all the conversations but it still tells me I have one unread message.
I don't use any other app for messaging and I'm really out of ideas on how to solve this problem.
Solved! Go to Solution.
You could try the following:
1. Change messaging app to Hangouts (Hangouts -> Settings -> SMS -> SMS enabled
2. Check for unread messages in Hangouts
3. Clear data for messages (Settings -> Apps -> All -> Messages)
4. Change back to default messaging app (Just open up the app and accept)
Try sending a message to yourself or asking someone else to send a message which may help clear the issue
I had already tried booting in safe mode and sending a message to myself, but it didn't work.
Actually, hangouts helped clear the issue, permanently I hope. In hangouts, there was an empty message from an unknown sender (who knows where it came from) which was invisible in the messaging app. I was able to delete it and the notification disappeared. I received a couple of text messages since and it seems to be working as it should.
Thanks for your suggestions & help!!!

Hello,
I wonder, is there a way to fix this without using the hangouts app which I have disabled and without deleting all the messages?
I have 2 new messages all the time...
