Problem Solved!

For English speaking countries.

BOTH System Language AND Text-to-Speech output must be set to "English (United States)"

Go to;

Settings / Language & input / Language and Select English (United States)

Then scoll down to Speech / Text-to-speech output

Tap settings cog next to Google Text-to-speech select Language and choose English (United States).

Hope this works for others too.

@Z2inQld

That's not quite accurate, Google is in charge of google maps, hence "Google", if you are experiencing a bug, you have to report it to Google devs.

You have few options

1. boot on safe mode

or

2. repair the phone with PCC

Bridge (for Mac)

Your statements are mostly correct.

Yes this problem occurred back in Feb and was resolved at that time by downgrading back to the earlier version of Google Maps by uninstalling all updatesmas per your suggestion. And I asked at the time whether Sony would be compatible with Google in the future.

Recently Sony have released Android 5.0.2 in Australia. And I installed this as per your suggestion via PC link Sony software.

I hoped that many of the incompatibilies and little glitches would be addressed with the new operating system. So I was surprised that this issue was now back.

Interested that you blame Google Android when Sony rolled out the update.

As a user I don't get the choice to roll-back standard Android apps such as Maps to versions earlier than that of the operating system.

That said this is where we are now, and I am looking for solutions that do not require factory reset as this wastes time resetting up all apps.

@Z2inQld

Yes Sony rolled out the update but Sony it's not responsible on Google apps. That's up to Google, believe it or not, you can ask on another forum, XDA Forum or xperiablog etc.

boot on safe mode and see if google maps work, most likely it's Ok Google creating this issue, again another GOOGLE app.
