seems facebook messenger is sending everyone crazy..me too
the recent update has thrown users into a loop of death due to the inability to call, use photos, answer calls,in fact anything due to a message which says "screen overlay" - which needs turning off ..then send you to setting where you see a long list of apps with screen overlay turnoed on - most of these you can not turn off, some you can...and do...but it still goes back to the same message..'screen overlay' turn off. and round and round you go..so messenger is now duff on my phone ..
good work google.
Hi @z3newbie,
I'm sorry to hear about that.
If you have an active conversation of messenger on your screen (the small icon where it shows the profile picture) try holding in with your finger on it and drag it down to the "X" at the bottom of your screen.
Open up the desired application that you want to use and trying giving the right permissions to the application(s).
You can also reboot your phone in safe mode since third party applications won't be launched in this mode and either start the app(s) and give permissions or go to Settings > Apps > name of the app(s) > Permissions > grant the permissions you want.
Restart your phone and try using the application(s) again.
Let me know how it went!
hi...no i didn't have anything else going on, just opened messenger.
when i go the apppermissions messenger has non at the moment (becasue of the overlay error)hence why I can't do anything with it...but if I press the first one, calendar..to turn it onI get the same message 'screen overlay detected'..then open setting and it takes you to the 'draw over other apps' screen where there are dozens of apps, some which say yes , some which say no. I've been through all of these and where able, set it to NO, many apps do not allow a change..so everything is set there to no overlay enabled.
There is no link back to messenger so close the setting and reopen messenger ..cliclk ona contact, tap the camera, the photo icon, the record voice, or even try the call button or the video button at the top and you get the same error loop,
....allow messnger to record audio ? deny/allow -- allow
....screen overlay detected - -open settings
....and i'm back wherei started in the settings - draw over other apps -
there is no escape..
Thanks for the swift reply.
I would recommend that you try rebooting the phone to safe mode and while in safe mode go to Settings > Apps > Messenger > Permissions > grant the permissions that you want to give to the application.
Reboot your phone and see if you are able to use the application again.
My phone was working fine one morning, and then by the afternoon, i tried to accept my gallery, but it said i needed to allow the app to access my phones storage. I pressed allow, but then a pop up showed up on my screen saying screen overlay detected, and that i had to turn off the screen overlay before accessing my gallery. I went into the settings like it told me to, and turned off the screen overlay for all the available apps, however not all of my apps showed up on the list. And when i went back to my gallery it still wouldnt let me. I really dont want to factory reset my phone, i want that to be a last resort. Help please
