Sms preview missing in notification bar.

Hi

I recently done the 5.1 update and followed it with a factory reset in order to get a clean install. Everything is running smoothly so far apart from SMS preview. Before my changes, I was able to read an sms, one line at a time as a preview in the notification bar. I must have missed something or been over cautious when faced with fresh settings as I no longer get this.

Any ideas?

Hi,

In Lollipop, this has been changed. When you receive a text message and you are using the preinstalled messaging application, only the messaging icon will appear in your notification field and no floating/scrolling text like in previous software. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any third party apps that have this kind of feature but there might be some app via Google Play that has it.

1. Open the messaging app
2. Menu
3. Settings
4. Notifications (should be on)

If you have the notification settings on, then check if you experience the same while on safe mode.

How to boot on safe mode on Lolipop
1. press and hold the power key
2. once you get the pop up menu
3. press and hold "power off"
4. Boot on safe mode should become available

Hi, notifications are on and I have booted into safe mode however there is no change. I can see the preview if I drag the notification bar down but I am no longer able to be in Chrome or any other app and read an sms as it comes in, one line at a time in the notification bar.

Are you using a third party home launcher or notification app?

Try to clear the messager app data and also the home launcher.

How to clear data on apps.
From your Home screen

1. Tap the Application screen icon.
2. Find and tap Settings > Apps.
3. Swipe to the All tab.
4. Find and tap on the messaging app.
5. Tap Force stop > Clear data.
6. Restart the phone
7. Repeat the steps for the Xperia Home app

Thanks - at least I know. What a shame they took that away - could have at least have made it optional.
Appreciate everyone's comments
