Sony Xperia Z5 Premium Dual Sim E6883 dead after complete discharge

I am in Cental America and was using WAZE to navigate thrught the country while the phone has been connected to car charger on 27% percent battery and saying it was charging, after 2 hours drive it has come up  with message that is "Power shuting down" or something similar about power down Slightly_frowning_Face

I have tried numerous things line VolUp+Power, 2 min reset with different combinations, connecting to power socket while hoding those keys, but nothing seems to force the phone to charge again.

So every time I plug to phone to wall socket charger it would come on with picture of red bar at the bottom and sign that it is charging, then it looks like it restarts, with Sony logo and dies second later

.

Same thing when connected to my powerbank that has 3 outputs (1A max| 2A max | 2.4A max)  it does not start charging the phone in any of the 3 outputs, even if left connected over night. My powerbank would  indicate with 4 LED's how much juice is left while charging, but those would go off when connected to my Experia after few seconds indicating that the phone is not being even charged to get some charge to battery before it can be switched on again.

I have followed advice from here as well:

http://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/xperiaz5/faq/The-device-doesnt-seem-to-charge/)/

Any help appretiated.

Someone over here suggests

https://androidforums.com/threads/sony-xperia-z-wont-charge-through-usb-in-car-charger-or-wall-socke...

putting the phone to FLashing Mode, but I do not have access at the moment to Windows PC with Xperia Companion software, so I will try this as a last resort when I get back home.

I was reading about "Z5 Rebooting to infinity"
/t5/Xperia-Z5-Z5-Compact-Z5-Premium/Z5-Rebooting-to-infinity/td-p/1202728
article as it was one of the first problems I used to have with the phone when I purchased it (plus that the Headphone slot does not work anymore Slightly_smiling_Face
and managed to get the phone that has been completely discharged to charge again overnight after reboot with VolumeDown button plugged into the PC
(only the green light on top left corned would be lit up when connected to PC).

I was about to get it flashed with the ""flashtool" (I purchased the phone from HKG, so Sony UK would not repair it etc. so warranty is not an issue)
and got the phone into the "Rebooting to infinity" status while trying to get it into the "Flash MODE" somehow again.

Then I had a bright idea as whenewer that happend before, I would hold the power button untill the restarting stopped.

When it stopped the phone booted up normally when I pressed power button and started to charge from the PC, so unplugged it and pluged it into wall
charger and it was charging again!

I have now obviously lost all the data as a result Slightly_frowning_Face but the phone is working again.

Should I have not proceeded with the reinstallatioin by Xperia Companion,  but tried holding the power button when it was in "Rebooting to infinity"
I would had still have all my contacts I picked up on my travells Slightly_frowning_Face

I know should have backed it all up after every trip.

My question is, what state was the phone in?
Was it ready for flashing? But if it was, why could I not flush it with flashtool?

Hi @1bit, I'm so sorry to hear about this. Slightly_frowning_Face

Since the phone seems to start up for a short amount of time, try removing your SIM and/or SD card from the phone and see if you are able to power it on again / charge the phone.

If there is no change after removing either of these cards a software repair using Xperia Companion is the next step to try.

I fully understand that getting access to a computer while being on road is not the easiest thing in the world but I'm afraid that there isn't much else left for you to try. Slightly_frowning_Face

Let me know how it goes and I really do hope everything will work out in the best possible way!

Thank you @Jonas for your guidance.

Maybe this is relevant, but while ago I enabled Ultra STAMINA to see what it does, and since then
I used to have problems with the phone not always charging when connected to PC/Power bank or sometimes even a wall charger
and I had to restart it and sometimes it would restart itself in loop until I held the power key for extended time.

I have take both SIM cards and MicroSD card out of the phone and all test ware done without them being inserted in the phone.

So I managed to get the phone by some wired combinatioin of keys show the green light in the top left corner of the screen, (while plugged into the PC)
before doing "software repair with Xperia Companion" and left it for 2 hours like that, there was nothing on the screen indicating that the phone is being charged,
but after 2 hours I procedded with software repair by Xperia Companion that was sucessfull and phone booted up with 59% battery charge.

But.
Logged into my Google account on the phone, but phone does not charge when connectd to wall socekt.
Message popped out on the screen about "Charging optimisation" saying that it's recommended and can be changed Settings > About phone > Status > Charging optimisation
but it makes not difference if it is on or off, the phone would not start charing.
So I have done "Factory data reset" Settings, tap Backup & reset > Factory data reset > Reset phone > Erase everything. restarted the phone and nothing, phone would not charge.
Same msg about "Charging optimisation" pops out again. TWhen the phone boots up completly, it makes a noice ""short beep" that it would make when on charge, but would not charge .

I have again tried 2-minute restart procedure (Volume Up + Power Key) for Xperia and 2-minute restart procedure
(press and hold down the OFF button for 120 seconds, ignoring any vibrations, and then release the OFF button.) for Xperia Z5
Volume Up + Power = Soft Restart, Volume Down + Power = Ready to connect to PC, Power + Hold Power Off menu = Reboot to Safe Mode
but nothing seems to get the phone charge.

When the phone is switched off, when I press the power buton with short press I get indicator of battery that now say after all that
testing I have done with the phone 30% and symbol of battery with 30% green bar inside it.

I understand that when using the Xperia Companion Google account is needed to restore, and stoop people flashing stolen phones makes sens,
but could that still hold some data somewhere?

I have seen the post about "Reset stamina mode, Improve the battery"
/t5/Xperia-Z5-Z5-Compact-Z5-Premium/Reset-stamina-mode-Improve-the-battery/td-p/1183848
but I think now it's too late, and hopfully after doing Factory data reset that should not affect me, or should I reset the mode,
even If I have not enabled it?
Anyway, I have tried this as well on the phone and phone get into the reboot loop mode again. So pressing Volume Down + Power  reboots the phone.
With message "STAMINA mode" deactivatd. So when I click on it, I get options:
Auto-start at 15% battery
Always on
Never
I choose Never, then Power and Restart and I get msg. that battery is now at 26%, plugged the phone into the wall charger and nothing.

Android version 6.0.1
Customisation 1299-2163 R7C
Current software Version: 32.2.A.0.305

So the phone is not dead anymore, it boots up, but refuses to charge.

Well it charges but in the obscure recovery mode before it gets flashed by Xperia Companion Slightly_frowning_Face

and I can not get the phone to enter that mode anymore .....

Update:

The phone is in the strange mode, when I press the power button it will show battery over the whole screeen with percentage on top.

I have looked at the phone yesterday morning and it was 2% from 26% day before, when I switched it off. So it is somehow discharging itself.

As far as I know, when the phone is turned off, there was no battery picture over the whole screen, unless it was charging ...

Hi again!

I'm sorry for the late reply. Slightly_frowning_Face

You are correct, the battery icon will only be shown if the phone is charging and it turned off (so you can check if it's charging while it's powered off).

I'm afraid that there isn't much else to try here apart from the software repair using Xperia Companion. Do note that you won't be able to perform a backup using Xperia Companion since the phone can't be powered on and all data stored on the internal storage will be deleted.

If there is no change after the software repair has been complete the phone has to be examined by a trained technician at an authorized service centre and your Local support team will arrange a repair for you and answer all questions that you may have regarding local service routines, warranty and so forth.

I'm sorry for the inconveniences this may cause.

Hi again!

Glad to hear that you were able to resolve it!

I have never heard anything like this so I'm afraid I won't be able to answer that question. Slightly_frowning_Face

I'm sorry to hear about your contacts. Are you sure that you didn't save them as a Google contact in your phone? Then you should still be able to access them on contacts.google.com if you log in with the same Google account.

If you only saved them as local contacts I strongly recommend that you start to add them as a Google contact in the future (too late now I know). That way you can access them from other devices and if you have to reset your phone and you aren't able to do a backup you can always add your Google account again and they will appear in the phone as soon as they have been synchronized.

Thanks for telling me how you solved this, I will keep that in mind in case I hear about it again!
