xperia z screen broke, cannot get into my files on my pc as there is passphrase on my device

Hi, Please help.

I recently dropped my device and the sreen cracked. As a result of this the touch screen dose not work so i cannot get past my passcode to unlock the phone. Before i get my device fixed i would like to get all my files ( photos ect) off my device in case i lose them all when its getting repaired. Tried to go on it through my pc but still said it cant sync unless i put my code in.

Dose any one know if thier is any other way i can put the code in with out using the touch screen? Thanks for all the help any one can give me Slightly_smiling_Face

Dude, you are a genius. I thought I was never going to be able to get my files off of the phone and kept thinking "if just there was a way to use a mouse to unlock the phone" and hat d you know, you can actually do that. You saved my butt big time. BIG THANKS!!!

When you connect your broken/blank screen Xperia to your computer via USB, does it make a sound when it connects?

Yes it does. However in "my computer" i can see the sony xperia z icon but when i open it it doesnt show any files. Due to the fact my phone is locked with a passcode. This is the issue. And i had not enable usb debugging mode as i didnt know about it until now.

" Almost immediately experienced a hairline crack in the front screen."

Why would you not take it back at this point?

"This phone was NEVER abused, dropped, etc."

Again If you did not do it ,why would you not take it back?  I have worked in the mobile phone industry for over 10 years and have not always had Sony, cracks have been known to be there out of the box, in many brands of phone, but are always swapped out ion store straight away. if the crack is not there out of the box it DOES NOT magically happen by it self.

"Then she asked ... "did you try unlocking it?"   Nope - hadn't thought of that.  What a brilliant idea.  So then the SONY rep's reponse was ... and you can't make this up ... "I use the Experia and don't have any problems."  Really?  Well congratulations!  That makes me feel so much better and magically made my phone spring to life.  You moron!!!  I told the rep about the NUMEROUS blogs and info on the Internet concerning the fragile screen and associated problems.  Of course she'd never heard of ANY SUCH THING. Apparently all the Experia's are PERFECT except for mine.  They would appear to take their Customer Service lessons from the federal govenrnment in Washington, DC ... in other words, they can't get out of their own way."

Clearly the person you spoke to was inexperienced, but unless you bought this from a Sony store i can't see that that is Sony's fault.

Finally if you paid attention to this forum instead of just ranting you would know that with a $2 adapter and a USB mouse and/or keyboard you would have been able to access your phone data to transfer into a new device.

But at the end of the day what can you expect from a person who spells "Xperia" as "Experia" when it is written clearly on the top of the page. I am not talking about a one off typo as the mistake is repeated 4 times.

After Plugging in the phone and you see the icon:

1. Unplug the phone form the computer

2. Plug in a USB keyboard

3. Type in you passcode. (listen for the unlock tone/noise if you have one set.)

4. Immediately unplug the keyboard and plug in the computer

I hope this works for you I have done this several times in the past. If it is pattern locked and you cannot see the screen then all is lost unless you take it to a repair centre.

Thanks alot mate u saved me a fortune!! Really appreciate it. Although entering numbers did not work. I had to improvise the passcode screen and selet the numbers using the up down left right keys, pressing enter after every number i chose! Took me a few attempts to get it spot on but pheewww ! Saved £110 for a screen replacement just to get my files back. Now to make a claim through insurance to get a replacement! Cheers mate

You need a USB OTG cable and connect a mouse there.

Why defend Sony? do you work for them.... Rhetorical question champ

Customer's not happy with service and so be it.

Tried this trick and can't network configure my phone to PC so if anyone can help with this one it would be very much appreciated as I have some beautiful photos of the kids and don't want to lose them to factory reset.....

Good luck to all.
