Xperia Z screen broken!

Hi there!

Okay, so today I slipped and fell over on concrete, and my phone's screen cracked. First time I have ever cracked my phone - was pretty shocked (haha). The crack was pretty minor however, bottom left of the screen, about 1cm x 1cm wide with a long, thin crack-line proceeding from the bottom left corner to about the mid-low right part of the screen (about 4-5 cm long).

(crack is shown in red)

Now the screen on the right side of the long crack is completely dead - it is completely non-responsive. The screen on the left side of the crack however is responsive, which I find to be very odd. I can't really do anything on my phone, aside from turn in on .

(un-responsive part of screen in red, responsive part of screen in green)

What do you think? Is the screen repairable? Is the phone salvageable? If the phone is salvageable will repairing the screen fix it? And where should I take my phone for screen repair? Back to Sony or should I go to a third-party repair company (who is obviously cheaper).

Thanks A LOT for your help!

I do not think there is anything right now.Wait for their answer, even though it might come a little late.

Sorry to hear about that incident. It could happen to me as I love my Z1 aesthetics so much, that I dont want to put it in a case and ruin its lines xD...(Im not too worried though as I get free insurance with my package..which is actually quite nice of them)

...but I think Sony should reward you with a replacement or service, just for the supreme MS Paint rendition of their product ; D

Hi there!

My phone just came back from being fixed actually, unfortunately the $300 came from our pocket haha. Too bad my drawings didn't persuade them to pay for it Slightly_smiling_Face

Thanks!

Too bad mate, but at least its back with a nice flawless new screen : D...Ive only had mine for a month or so, and I look after it, and it hasnt got a single scratch on it, but you can never know what will happen...

Just walking into something, like the edge of a table, while its in my pocket could put a crack in the screen, even though the glass is an extremely tough Alumino-silicate..

(Sony code name 'DragonTrail', if you didnt know and fancy reading up on it...since it cost you a bit of money you may as well find out what you paid for xD...Maybe you already know about it, and have seen the vieos of it in testing..but some might not have and find it interesting...its certainly impressive materials science.)

Anyway, I have been looking at every case for the Z1 that I can find....and I just havent found one that I either like, or that provides enough protection that makes it worth ruining the stunning aesthetic...

So Im probably just going to put my trust in the insurance that is included by my network provider (worth £14 a month)....and hearing what the price of a replacment screen is...well it certainly gives me some peace of mind..

it might be worth considering, if your day to day use of the phone might lead to further impacts!

Wow 300 dollars is quite some money, considering the price for a new Xperia Z dropped to around 300 euros in The Netherlands.
