Hi, I am seeing an issue with Xperia Z after the new build 10.3.A.0.423 update. I'm not sure if this particular problem has anything to do with the proximity sensor, because the screen goes blank as soon as a call is connected, even while still holding the phone on the palm. It just doesn't come back until the call gets disconnected, screen remains blank during the call even if we try to press the volume up and down keys or the power button.
I'm pretty sure this problem started after the new build 10.3.A.0.423 update. Please let me know of a permanent solution for this issue.
I suspect this problem is being caused by something you have installed
remove all utility apps - antivirus - screensavers - live wallpapers etc
utility apps being battery memory cpu managers task killers etc and see how you go
have you recently put a screen protector on the handset?
I also have the same problem that the screen goes entirely black until the other person disconnects the call, and I can't do anything. I haven't installed any new apps, only the new systemupdate mentioned above. This must be a fault with the system, and I don't have a screenprotector.
Two Senarios that could be happening here,
The Proximity Switch is playing up.
Try to Reflash the software on the handset, so that its clean (none of your apps will be there, photos, etc) then retry it by making a call. If it's still happening with the same problem, contact your local sony repair center
search the forum - this problem has already been resolved - it was an app installed by the use that caused this, can't remember which one but 100% correct
you guys install all this crap and expect the phone to function normally, there is no need for any of it as has been posted here many times - use the seach tool and find your solution
if you don't want to do that then do an update repair and fix your phone and be careful what you install after
Come on @GeoffH, I can understand your loyalty to this phone and Sony, but that doesn't mean that others deserve such language from their peers just for seeking help for an issue they have with their phones.
The issue which I have brought here was a genuine one which started occuring only after the latest system update, not because of any app as you describe, because I don't have any such app installed in my phone. Moreover, I have already done a factory reset, but still the issue continues to occur.
I don't believe this specific issue has been resolved before in this forum, as I couldn't locate a solution in any of the other discussions.
As I can see another user also having the same issue as faced by me, I believe it has definitely something to do with the system update.
If anyone has a solution to fix this issue, please post in this discussion, otherwise please excuse.
Have even done a complete factory reset, but the problem persists. The build number still shows as 10.3.A.0.423 which I believe is the cause for the problem.
I am an owner just like you - I have never experienced this problem but some people have, do a search on the forum for answers or take your phone to a service center for evaluation
the was either an installed app - user fitted additional screen protector or a faulty device

I am also facing the same problem. We are on Sony Forums, why we are asking each other. Is there no one from SONY company to help their valuable customers. Or are the looking for us to shift to Samsung Note?
Please help, I am fed up with this going blank option.
I do make a call, the person does not pick and I am not able to disconnect. It is all blank.
