Help!!! Broken screen on Z5, usb recognition NOT done before break. Is there any way to get unit to recognise usb otg so I can use mouse to access . Unlocking is not a problem as thumb print done. I can get to home screen but of course touch don't work at all. Aid or ideas appreciated. Thanks
Hi there,
I have the same problem with my xperia Z5.. The glass is broken therefore the touch is not working.. Which wireless mouse is compatible with the phone as i need to back up everything to my SD card.
Hi,
I've just cracked the touch screen on my Z5 compact rendering it un-useable. I'm keen to get into the phone to back up the contacts and files etc.before sending it off for repair.
I was hoping to use an On the Go cable but both keyboard and mouse aren't recongnised. I've read elsewhere they're only recognised if you go through settings.
1. How else can I get into the phone to back up the data?
2. Can I get On The Go to work as a plug and play.
Thanks
Hi @Philbo1, I'm sorry to hear about your phone.
I merged your topic with this one. If you power on your phone with an OTG cable and device connected you should be able to use them. Please see the previous replies here for more information.
I'm pleased to say this fix works. You can force your device to recognise a mouse/peripheral through forcing a restart. Big thumbs up to Sony support
1- Unlock your device with fingerprint
2- Connect a PS4 controller via OTG and press PS button
3- Now you can use PS4 controller without OTG, so remove the controller cable
4- Connect a mouse
5- Go to Settings > Device connection > USB Connectivity > Detect USB device.
I accidently dropped my z5 to the ground yesterday, an now im unable to restore my backup files before sending it to service.
I tried with OTG cable and Samsung Usb Connector. But none of them arent working.
Anyone experienced the same? is there something i can do ?
Hi @XZ5Norway, I'm sorry to hear about your phone.
I merged your post with this topic on the same subject. If you power on your phone with the the OTG cable already connected it should be able to connect.
Please see my earlier post here for more information.

Sorry to hear this.I realize this might be too late but you should be able to get the phone to recognise a connected USB device by forcing a power off (pressing and holding volume up (+) and the power key) and then powering on the phone with the USB device already connected to the phone with an OTG adapter.
I tried this for my sony z3, but phone still cant recognise a connected usb mouse 😕 I tried to use that mouse with samsung phone and it works perfectly. How I can connect mouse to my phone (touch screen isnt working) ?
