NEX-5 USB connection failing

I’m having trouble with USB connection. I tried all 4 of my USB ports; it’s initiating installation, but fails. I removed all Sony drivers (I have Sony camcorder), defragmented disc to start from fresh, tried again and it’s failing anyway.  On the box it says that camera is not supported by Windows XP 64-bit and Starter editions, but my machine is running on Windows XP Version 5.1 (service pack 3) and its 32-bits.. When I plug in my camera and put in “application software” CD, wizard can’t find software and installation fails .I have tried 2 different cables, and it didn’t help .Tried on neighbours PC - still the same. Any advice?  I'm getting desperate...

Thank you.
