Why are stock levels so low for CX730?

It seems to be hard to find this camera in stock at most retailers. Nothing on ebay, currys, not much on google shopping search (a few suspect scam sites), and Amazon only have 3rd party sellers (who are asking a lot).

I'm suspicious that the short supply is pushing the price up. I don't need the camcorder right now so can wait a couple of months.

My question is....will this relatively new model start coming back in to stock any time soon? What causes these short supplies on new models?

Should i dive in now and pay an inflated price, or sit it out?

Thanks

Hello pj100uk - welcome to the Sony Forums

Regarding the CX730, I do not know about exact stock issues for this camera. However, the most up to date indicator about availability can be found by looking at the official page on the Sony Store website. This is located here:

http://www.sony.co.uk/product/cam-high-definition-on-memory-stick/hdr-cx730e

As there is no 'Buy Now' link and just a button indicating that customers should contact their local store for more information, I think this means that stock has run out. Usually, these cameras are replaced with another model. In terms of stock, if you take a look at the following page you will see the hard drive based camcorders that are still available:

Thanks,

Simon

Thanks Simon.

I think i might hold on and see which camcorders sony release this Spring. Even if the next models are too expensive for me (say over £800), it may lead to retailers off loading the CX730 at a knock down price.

Hello again

It may be a good idea to see how the prices are reduced by the various retailers. The market is so unpredictable at the moment that the upswing is that some crazy deals crop up more often than not.

Thanks,

Simon
