Sony DVD Recorder RDR-HXD790 - HDD playback issue

This issue has suddenly appeared for no known reason.  Can anyone advise how to remove this annoying little interference?  Many thanks for reading and considering.

When playing back a TV programme recorded on the HDD, a greyish transparent on-screen band displays across the top 3-4 inches of the TV screen that obscures viewing throughout the whole of playback.  Within this band appears the HDMI symbol followed by the text "HDMI1 Recorder 1 (HDD/DVD)".

Any ideas?

This has nothing to do with the recorder. If you are using a Sony TV set (by the dimension of the band it seems quite hold) you just have to press the info button (top left on the tv remote) twice: it will disappear.
